WK180C Gen 2 Released at Shot Show 2022 Pictures linked to

I really don't get why people (I'm not being specific to you) care so much about brass deflectors. At absolute worst you get a little brass mark on your gun, the thing that gets covered in carbon and more.

I just don't get why people give a fish.

This reminds me when I bought a new car years ago. The first little scratch, I was sitting there with overpriced paint and clearcoat trying to fix it. I was doing the same to my WK when I got the first ding on it. Once I realized that the brass marks are only aesthetic, it doesn't bother me anymore. I have even stopped repainting it.

Kodiak is going to have to up their game if they plan to sell these atrocities in the USA

They'll sells tens of them.

Impossible to compete with proper piston uppers like the BRN-180 or cheap ARs like PSA's offerings.

A c-clip to hold the gas block in place? God forbid a proper solution like pinning is used.

They pinned the gas block when they first came out. Not sure why they stopped.

Well, they did have a magnet holding the charging handle in.......

Nothing at all wrong with having a magnet holding the charging handle in, if the fit between the charging handle and bolt has no slop. The original ar180b doesn't have a threaded CH, no one had issues with it.
The fit between Kodiak's magnetic CH and bolt on their first WKs was akin to throwing a hotdog down a hallway. You could rock it side to side in the bolt, and the magnet was way too weak to hold it in place as the bolt cycled. That probably wouldn't have been much of an issue if their steel CH was sliding along steel rails, but it just ate the soft aluminum they used in their uppers. The threaded CH was the cheapest fix they could think of, and their garbage threaded CHs snapped regularly because there was no shoulder to handle the stress.

Speaking of magnets, the TNA steel upper comes with a bolt that doesn't have a threaded charging handle. Its held in with a magnet. Except TNA put effort into making it, so there is zero slop. It's a perfect fit, and the magnet they used (which isnt even needed, because the fit is perfect) is bigger and stronger than what Kodiak used. Being that it's steel on steel I can see it lasting forever, and having tool-less takedown is nice.

Yeah I wish I had one of those...no matter how much I torque my threaded one, it comes loose with shooting. Rather not loctite it, but may have to. Better loose than shearing off I suppose. Would have been nice if they made the holes in the charging handle bigger so I can get a bigger allan key in there to torque it.

Do what I did, ask Kodiak to swap out your existing CH for the magnetic one. Worked for me.

Even though my charging handle hasn't sheared off? Wouldn't they have to send me a new bolt?

I should mention that my WK is still within the 1-year purchase timeframe (barely) - I had contacted Owen before about the CH and he says they will be happy to send me a replacement if it breaks. It hasn't broken yet.

Without an official complaint will Kodiak actually take my gun back and replace the bolt and the CH? Even if it was a small fee, I'd pay it.

you need a new bolt carrier and cocking handle to move to the magnetic system.

Torque your CH really tight, go to the range with 2-300 rounds have fun, pick up the pieces and send it. Or just offer to pay, they're a great bunch and kindness gets you a long way.

Plus lets face it with the Gen 2 they've potentially got a bunch of them sitting around that aren't going to get used now that the Gen2 is using a non-reciprocating CH

The Left-side cocking slot is still open to the elements when the new non-reciprocating Charging Handle is forward. Weird design decision, as they could have made the sliding portion of the Charging Handle longer to cover that slot, thus eliminating further end-user complaints about exposure to the elements. Aside from that, it looks better that it did thanks to the new Lower Receiver.

Then they can fix that with Gen 3 and sell even more! ;)

I have an EOTECH on my 180 without any mods at all? Maybe it’s the only one tone anywhere near spec

Lucky! There was another guy here who was able to fit a Vortex UH1 on his, so every once in a while they seem to make one far enough off their "specs" to allow it LMAO. Think he had to take the mount apart before it could slide on the rail though.
Mine wasn't even close to being able to fit a Huey or any Eotech (tried 3 different models, literally took the rifle into CSC to find something that would fit and it was pure fail). I would have had to shave 1-1.5mm off of the mount or top of the receiver on mine. It also wouldn't fit the polymer Magpul BUIS, either. Couldn't depress the button far enough down for them to flip up, due to receiver interference.
Resorted to regular scope rings and a LPVO. It's the only rifle I've had that I don't miss. Overpriced mediocrity.

this rail situation is strange/odd.. i have a second run wk180 and have no rail issues. a friend of mine has a recent production model and a couple of my dots won’t tighten up properly… hmm

Assuming the pre-order price remains accurate on release, the True North Arms pre-order seems to indicate a Gen 2 price of $1399, https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/pre-order-gen-2-kodiak-defence-wk180-c-5-56-nato-223-rem-18-7-bbl-non-restricted.html. In the interim they have dropped the price of the Gen 1 from $1299 to $1149 to clear them out, if anyone feels like gambling/applying known Gen1 fixes :) , https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/kodiak-defence-wk180-c-demo.html.

$1400 is a killer price for all the features, assuming QC and quality is good then KD just smacked the competition away
