WK180C Gen 2 Released at Shot Show 2022 Pictures linked to

Assuming the pre-order price remains accurate on release, the True North Arms pre-order seems to indicate a Gen 2 price of $1399, https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/pre-order-gen-2-kodiak-defence-wk180-c-5-56-nato-223-rem-18-7-bbl-non-restricted.html. In the interim they have dropped the price of the Gen 1 from $1299 to $1149 to clear them out, if anyone feels like gambling/applying known Gen1 fixes :) , https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/kodiak-defence-wk180-c-demo.html.

Its tempting but then I just look at how ugly that rifle is and my mind is made up.

Pass.

I'll wait to look at a Gen 3.

Does anyone know if the pic rail is machined out of the receiver or if it’s pinned/screwed on to the receiver like the original WK?

The picatinny rail and upper receiver are all one piece of aluminum.

Lucky! There was another guy here who was able to fit a Vortex UH1 on his, so every once in a while they seem to make one far enough off their "specs" to allow it LMAO. Think he had to take the mount apart before it could slide on the rail though.
Mine wasn't even close to being able to fit a Huey or any Eotech (tried 3 different models, literally took the rifle into CSC to find something that would fit and it was pure fail). I would have had to shave 1-1.5mm off of the mount or top of the receiver on mine. It also wouldn't fit the polymer Magpul BUIS, either. Couldn't depress the button far enough down for them to flip up, due to receiver interference.
Resorted to regular scope rings and a LPVO. It's the only rifle I've had that I don't miss. Overpriced mediocrity.

I currently have a Unity Riser and my EOTech mounted on my rail and previously had just the EOTech. I think I might have lucked out. This sounds infuriating!

I have been waiting to get into the 180 game as there were too many things I disliked about the current offerings. This gen2 seems to address most of them if they come in at the $1400 mark I think I will be jumping on one.

Correct, but you should only be using the CH once per range trip given the bolt release/hold open is there

Sounds fine for the bench, less than ideal for competitive shooting though...

I'm a lefty and applaud Kodiak for this change. Just run it like a righty runs an AK.

I COULD do that, but I'd rather spend my money on a gun that has the controls I want... which sadly isn't looking like that's much of an option. I stayed away from the 180c due to the list of problems people were having. Then the WS-MCR dropped and i was super stoked until i found it about the non- reversible CH on it. Now we get a gen2 180c, and again no lefty friendly CH. =(

Have you looked at the Jard J180? It has a right side only charging handle which doubles as shell deflector, and has an admittedly expensive optional dust cover for the charging handle slot, like the BRN-180. It also uses a gas tube instead of a piston to impinge the 180 recoil system via a DI-ish Stoner pseudo-piston, so you can re-use the fore-end of a donor AR-15 if you have one safe-queened.

SBI is going to soon release their Lynx 180 upper, which has swappable side panels, one configuration of which will be right eject/right charge. They are also developing a DI 180 BCG, though the timeline on that is unknown.

Sadly I do not have an AR to steal parts off of, I only got as far as lower and LPK before the writing was on the wall about the ban and I hesitated...

And I just moved, which meant new laundry machines and a couch (plus a million other small things...) so my gun budget looks pretty weak right now. I guess I'll just have to hope I can be able to score a gen1 180c before they're all gone...

Thanks for pointing out those other options though, gives me something to have a look at to see if they'll fit my needs at a price I can afford.

No worries, life takes priority. The J180 without a donor is not an inexpensive option, plus it does look like a brick. If you're going to wait a bit, the Lynx would be a later aesthetically pleasing option, plus you could use a 1st gen WK you're thinking of purchasing as a parts source for the Lynx. I would thread lock the gas block to keep it from rotating and torsion-stressing the piston to breakage.

Most stages are less than 60 rounds, if you're needing to clear a stoppage more than once every 10 standard magazines (300 rounds) you, your ammo or the gun are the problem not where the cocking handle is

Sure, but if I'm going to spend $1k+ on a gun why would I NOT want one that has the controls I want?

Besides, is the bolt release you mentioned earlier ambi? Didn't look like it to me?

Solution: Spend another $1K and buy the Sterling R18 Mk2. It features an ambi Selector and Bolt Catch. You can easily add a Troy or Norgon-style ambi Magazine Catch. Sill a Left-side Charging Handle, but non-reciprocating.

That might be a solution for you, but my pockets are not that deep. That is one of the big reasons the 180c and ws-mcr were so attractive, compared to most other NR semis with modern ergonomics they're very affordable, and the 180c in particular due to its relative lefthanded friendliness.

Because when you make a $1400 gun with lots of capabilities you don't cater to a minority of a minority (lefties being circa 10% of population, and of those the ones that won't buy something because one item that'll be used once a day isn't in the perfect place).

The bolt release looks like it can be actuated with either a thumb or trigger finger so is "ambi" in that sense but not fully ambi, I don't think anyone makes a fully ambi 180

Yeah seriously I'm a lefty and actually love the KD bolt release bc I can easily sweep down with my trigger finger. They included an ambi safety that they didn't have to, and frankly, to quote Goldmember "then there ish no pleashing you" *dutch accent*
