WK180C Owners Thread

Just picked one up used at a local gun store. After taking it home and disassembling it for a thorough (un-needed) cleaning it appears to have barely been used. Got the rifle with a Scorpion 1-4x24 illuminated reticle, 2 mags (both pinned), tactical bag case all for $800 CND. Went in to see if I could find a 22-250 to use on coyotes but ....
It is a fun gun to shoot and I may hang on to it or I may trade it for a dog gun. Time will tell.

Has anyone purchased one of these as of recently? What has the quality been like on the most recent models?

I am really liking the idea of getting one before they can't be got no more....and the spectres seem to be incredibly difficult to snatch up.

My 2cents
My 1st rifle was a nightmare ! bought new from gunstore.
Mags would fall out after a couple shots.
charging handle broke.
ftf & fail to fire.
this is all in the same day. No joke.

I sent it back......they sent me a New one. NO hassle NO issues. Fantastic warranty !
I didnt trust the charging handle so I made one from a grade 8 bolt. NO more issues !!
Accuracy is excellent. Very happy !
performs and cycles great.
It does NOT like plastic mags ! " they dont seem to catch tight" no big deal...I run all metal ones. Have had NO issue with any tin mags.
only have 300 rounds through it...so not much of a review.
I really like the rifle.

Thanks for replying! I am wondering if the latest iteration coming out of Kodiak these days is much improved (and yes, I have gone through this entire thread....the search function here is not so great)

Mounted up some good glass and shot this. The two touching are the first two. Then the group walked left. The last shot felt like I shanked it. But was also the last round on bolt hold open. Factory hornady black 75 gr. Note the picture is showing sideways

AE 55 is around 3.5 moa to 4.0

That's odd, American Eagle normally groups a lot better. 2-2.5moa out of mine

I haven't had many issues with mine, however it's only a couple months old with about 800 rounds or so through it. The shoulder on the charging handle seems to have solved the weak point of the older ones. Just have to hope my piston stays together. Doesn't seem to have a lot of wear to it.

Thanks to other CGNers suggestions, I loctited the gas block screws just in case....they weren't loose, which is a good thing, but the loctite will give additional peace of mind. I can't see any reason why I would need to take the block off at this point anyways...

Alright chaps, this is as happy as I've been with mine. Strike Eagle 1-8 in MDT rings, Zhukov stock+adapter from SFRC, OEM 15" handguard and ext. bolt catch from Kodiak, V7 micro brake, modified hiperfire grip (had a sort of half beavertail that needed cutting down), hiperfire advanced duty trigger, USGI sling from the guys at Mapleseed.

Mine AE is a brand new lot. Maybe that’s it?

AE shot pretty so-so in the one I had - averaged 10 rounds into 4-6 moa at 100m, and I doubt very much Kodiak has implemented quality improvements on the barrels since the beginning of production.
Honestly, I think it has to do with what you consider a 'group', and how you go about measuring that group.

Some guys shoot 3 rounds or 5 rounds together and if it manages to keep them into 1" for one of these 'groupings', ignoring outliers and shifts in MPI through the rest of their shooting, they call it 1 moa or 2 moa or whatever gun, which of course is nonsense.

However, it does make for great story telling.

In fairness Beltfed I think it's worth you highlighting how early in production your experience was. I don't think the 2021 WK is the same beast as say the 2018 model and that is what I think most posters are asking about when they ask these sort of things because they are mostly prospective 2020/2021 rifle purchasers.

Has Kodiak indeed made any upgrades to the barrel of the wk180?

Like I said, I don't think Kodiak have made improvements into the barrels, and I doubt Federal has made improvements to their bog standard ball ammo they sell as dirty bird or XM223.

I'm a proponent of realistic expectations, and this being the biggest of a few that should be set right - in all fairness.

$20 a group.

I'll even supply the ammo.

We can make a range day of it. You (or someone around Calgary) comes out, bring your WK with stock barrel, and we'll feed it AE or XM223 (I think I have a couple of cans of the stuff under the reloading bench).
If you can fire 10 rounds into 2" (up to and including) at 100m (or whatever the 100yd/m point is at Milo) with that WK, I'll give the owner/shooter $20.
You do that five times (even if the MPI changes between all of the groups), I'll give you $100.

I'll even spring for wings and beer after.
So who's game?

Oh, just to add a bit of spice, any group that isn't shot into 2", then the shooter/owner pays me $20 for each group that fails the 2moa challange.
