WK180C Owners Thread

I have mailed my bolt carrier in. Waiting for KD to get back to me either with a new screw in bolt handle or the original returned with an inspection stamp (as per Owen). I am not sure what to expect if I do get a threaded bolt carrier, if they do replace it. Will have to try it out when I get it back.

VC, the handle looks nice on the gun. If I get BCG with a threaded handle, I'll order one of those.

Is there a serial number range for original vs. screw-in bolt handle?

I don't think so as many people replaced them so a serial number might not guarantee you anything.

I actually prefer the older one, yes you get metal shavings, but no you don't get broken cocking handles

I don't know if there is a set range - mine is in the 19CA12x range. I would venture a guess that the screw-in handle delivery started after the 2500s based on the threads and issues posted. Owen said that even the older magnetic ones may not be replaced with a newer version if the bolt passed their testing. They would just do an inspection stamp on it and send it back.

I have a question for those who have the threaded handle. Seems like the handle doesn’t screw in all the way? Fully tightened, I can still see a thread remaining and not flush. See pictures below.

Also noticed the handle is scraping on the outside edge, also noticed scraping on the handle itself?

Thanks.

The scraping is normal, it comes from the steel cocking handle rubbing against the aluminium receiver at high speed.

It will not impact the function of the rifle.

Some gun owners spend lots of time and/or money buying/altering guns to have a "battle worn" appearence. WK180Cs do it for you, you can consider it a value add but don't tell Kodiak or they might get ideas about charging extra for the same thing haha

Thanks. Its interesting you said "battle worn" - I was actually going to paint my rifle and have a plan, making it look battle-worn was part of the plan! :d

Going to the range this week, once I test it out and all is well, then I'll get down to the painting. I will attempt to achieve a look something like this.

Hey good on you for making your rifle that little bit extra "yours"

If you're looking to alter your rifle to look realistically battle worn I can provide some advice on that having spent plenty of time around rifles that were painted/altered by armed forces for camouflage purposes and had been heavily used.

Thank you. Appreciate it. I'll be in touch.

Another 250 rounds through the WK180C today.

She's going strong as expected, the old style bolt really has been a blessing in terms of no longer having to deal with cocking handles breaking. I'd love to hear if the Spectre handle is working well for people. My only complaint is that even after being double staked there is some rotational movement in the stock. I might have a word with Owen and see what can be done.

First upper 4300 rounds

Second upper now on 1300 rounds

After 5600 rounds through this gat in 12 months it's been a fun ride. I'm looking forward to her getting to the 10,000 round point, although that will only be the lower not the upper.

Hello gents,
I will be receiving my new WK180C soon. It is the Magpul edition. My question for everyone is about the charging handle. Does anyone run theirs on the right (ejection) side. If so does that make a difference with the breakage of the charging handle. I’ve been reading through lots of info on the issue and it always seems that breakage occurs when mounted on left side. I shoot right handed but I intend on getting the bolt catch lever so running the charging handle on the right I can live with. Any experience would be appreciated

I’m a lefty...I run mine on he right...only 1500 rounds so far but almost all in matches (Multigun and CQB) so a little harder use than just bench shooting...No issues so far but I carry a spare just in case.

I wanted to check in with everyone and see if anybody is having a similar issue that I am experiencing. The extractor pin on my WK-180c likes to walk out and get bent against the bolt body during cycling. This put the rifle completely out of action as the bolt cannot go into battery, and the pin is bent beyond repair requiring a new pin to be installed to get the gun running again. Has anybody else experienced this issue and if so is there anything you've done that you find reduces or minimizes the risk of the pin walking out?

I had to make my second warranty claim to Kodiak for the same issue today and if it happens again I'm going to start getting frustrated. I only have around 500 rounds through mine and it's all been relatively easy bench shooting and soda jug slaughtering unlike some others on this thread who seem to be putting the rifle though it's paces in tougher environments like competitions and high round count shooting sessions.

I appreciate any advice you can offer,

Thanks.

My advice is to ask nicely for a new bolt.

I’ve had an occasional issue where the bolt is not completely sealing the chamber as well and failing to fire. But couldn’t figure out the cause. I will check this. Thanks.

got as far as page 2
Lemon confirmed

Nice troll post.

But yeah, as with any product there are some with issues. Mine included. I wouldn’t want to take this gun into the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan and bet my life on its operation, but for a Saturday afternoon range toy, it’s perfectly suitable. The fact is, we don’t have a lot of choice anymore. It’s better than nothing.
