I'm a big fan of .22WMR, but am starting to get discouraged at the price of the ammo these days. Seems not that long ago I was paying about $12.50 for 50 rounds. Just bought some Remington Accu-tip (looks like V-Max) 33 gr. for $16.50 to try out. Just got another quote this week for $18 for the same stuff~the most I've ever seen any rimfire ammo. I don't know whether or not the rifle will like it any more than the other ammo I've tried but at that price, I sort of hope not!
On the flip side, it seems that .223 (my other varmint gun) is holding steady cost-wise, maybe even dropping a little if you look around. The .22 WMR lacks the punch/flat shooting of any centerfire round, but has it's place I think. Great varmint gun out to about 100-125 yards. (wouldn't shoot a coyote beyond about 75 with it though) Not as noisy, still less expensive to shoot, etc. I think they're different "animals" so to speak.
