I took this nice sow in WMU 48 on Sept. 25th. My friend & I were up early to our moose camp in the Kiosk area for bear hunting. We setup a bait site about 600m behind our camp. The first evening I sat on the bait, nothing but a pine marten came in. At dusk I packed up & started up the trail back to the camp. About 50m up the trail in a blowdown area, I see a bear head with ears looking across the trail. I froze & watched her enter the trail about 10m in front of me. She continued at a 45 degree angle down the trail towards me, & stopped at the far edge of the trail. I slowly raised my gun & shot her in the chest. The 150gr .270 Hornaday round nose bullet dropped her in her tracks, but she jumped up & ran another 10m back down the trail the way she had came before piling up. I stood patiently for 5 min. to see if she was going to try to get up again, but she was dead. I don't think she ever saw me. Interestingly there was NO blood trail to speak of, & NO exit wound. She was dry & didn't appear to have any cubs with her. I estimate her weight @ about 200 lbs. Have to wait for the MNR tooth fairy to tell me how old she was. Teeth were in very good shape, & the pelt was prime!

Beautiful!
It's funny that you saw her on the way out as last year I sat over bait for 6 evenings straight just to see one crossing the path in front of the ATV on the way out on day 6.
It was dark so i went home skunked.
Stupid Ontario Blackies!:)
