Woah woah woah I just bought a savage axis 6.5 creedmoor.

I got a Savage Axis 243 prolly 10 yrs or so ago . I was amazed how nice it grouped ..

My preferences in a 6.5 are the 6.5x55mm and .264 Win Mag....

For sure. Totally servicable rifle. The ones that passed through here were shooters too
 
I bought an axisII in 6.5 creed awhile ago as I wanted something I wouldn’t worry about getting dinged up and wanted to see what the fuss was about the 6.5 creed. For it being a cheap rifle it shoots very well. It’s a wet weather rifle for when I don’t want to take my other rifles out to hunt while it’s raining. I remember my first rifle a 94 Winchester 30-30 which I bought new and still have. I remember it well that feeling of having it.

While monometal bullets can work well at closer distances in the 6.5CM, I prefer cup and core bullets at 6.5CM velocities, especially at longer ranges.
 
Congrats on the purchase! Maybe the Savages aren't all the same.....but I love my Axis in 22-250. Its light enough to carry around in the woods for long periods, and can consistently group 3 rounds inside a loonie at 100yrds. Paid less than $500 and came with a scope. From my experience, they offer pretty good effectiveness on the dollar.

I prefer mono bullets in all cartridges at all velocities and ranges. Why would they not work in the 6.5CM? In my opinion cup and core bullets suck and are the worst choice available for big game.
 
Congratulations on your purchase, I just bought a 6.5 Creedmoor in another popular brand, I have a bald patch right where the man bun should go, I received more than a few rude comments as well, courtesy has declined on this site, so I am using the ignore, block, repeat method. There are lots of good threads and people here, it is just sometimes we forget our manners.

Congrats on the new rifle, shoot it and enjoy it, the axis is a good entry level rifle and should serve you well, as for the 6.5 CM nothing at all wrong with it, it's surprising how many people bad mouth and make fun of it, my bet is 99% of them have never owned or shot one, just bandwagon jumpers.

I've got a 6.5 Swede and a 6.5 MS...my arms are long enough to handle the additional bolt travel.

Lol. I’ve got that same problem when it comes to manbuns. I don’t get the hate for 6.5CM. Sure there are other things that are close and better and etc, etc. But 6.5CM is capable and more importantly readily available practically everywhere.

They will reach their expanding threshold sooner (closer) then if they had started at higher velocity.

Congrats on your new purchase, yycapp. I suggest you stay away from copper bullets..........take it from an old man who deteste 6.5 Creedmoors.;)

120gr GMX bullets (6.5 Creedmoor) recovered from game animals.
For the past year, I have been using the 120gr Hornady GMX bullet in my Howa 6.5 Creedmoor. I load the bullet to just under 2800 fps and consistently get 1/2 moa groups.

Between me and clients using my rifle, this bullet has accounted for 73 game animals, including Black and blue wildebeest, blesbuck, eland, red hartebeest, springbok and warthog. These bullets penetrate well, even on the larger antelope and expand reliably out to more than 400 meters.

Hi, newbie here, is the Axis such a bad rifle? or is it more elitism than actual function what drives most of the bad opinions? I was looking in to it as an entry level rifle.
