woke up this morning to find that I can still hunt in BC

weather 'forecasters' (even the real meteorologists) seem to botch up the one thing they're paid to do with annoying regularity and never get fired...

but on the BC election, I was pleasantly surprised by that result. Disappointed that A. Hadlund, guardian of the Peace, didn't get in, but that was always a longshot. Site C will be hastened along.. but the NDP never said they were against it either. Only some sort of misbehaving native action (or lawsuit) is likely to slow that project down...

I kinda wish the Libs would take a better balance between environmental issues & industrial development. Damn straight we need the money from resource development, but introducing a bit more environmental responsibility would make me feel better!

It used to be said that British Columbia's forestry policies were always geared for the next election.

You see where that got us. Now there are plans to log in parks because there is no wood left.

Looks like gas and oil planning in the province is following the same model.

So what if our kids are left with a hole in the ground?

there is sh*tloads of wood left , the problem is several large companies don't want to spend the money to make their mills run on the old beetle kill logs .

I fly over BC for a living and there is no shortage of timber, where did this info come from?

I would argue in return if BC doesn't keep up with its development all our kids will be moving next door where they are developing. BC still has only scratched the surface of its oil and gas as well. If BC keeps sitting back and figuring we should wait and see, the boat will really, truly be missed. The province is already broke, the wait and see approach isn't working. NDP along with their anti-hunting stance would have exacerbated that, the majority of BC saw that, and the vote swung back to pro-development. Western Canada floats on resources, without them we sink, and the NDP wants to sink the boat. No fast ferry pun intended.

I just read through the Green platform on their webpage. It does not mention hunting or guns per se. It was a scan on my part so I may have missed it. I e-mailed them directly asking them for their stance. Waiting reply as we speak. They discuss fishing at length and it is positive towards sport fishing and implementing more sustainable commercial fishing practice. Both good things. I like many parts of their approach. They have some serious brain power in their party not just politicians. The Liberals are so corrupt it gives me nausea to think of how they have mishandled our money (eg $10,000 for a bucket of snow dropped by helicopter for Olympics while shutting down schools). I agree the NDP are an urban based party and have forsaken their once rural routes. They did completely blow an election that was theirs for the taking. Totally inept politics on their part. Christie Clark would have more of my respect had she put some people in jail instead up help covering up their graft. She is guilty by association. This mandate may see us lose BC Hydro and much, much more. Ask fellow CGNers in Nova Scotia how that worked out for them??? As a transplanted Quebecker I have never taken this province for granted. We have much to lose and blind loyalty to a party is not something I would advocate for anyone.

The major thing the greens, and NDP are missing is economics. You simply cannot kill those pipelines, site C, and all the other revenue projects if you want this province to have a future for our kids. The money from nowhere politics (NDP, Greens) where they say they will kill massive projects funded by private capital (free infrastructure, that generates jobs and tax revenue, other countries PAY to have these things built and attract them) will literally sink the province.

BC has enormous gas and oil wealth as well, it just isn't marketable enough yet. Asian buyers are already willing to give up and go elsewhere with their money as other countries will step up to do what we are failing to. It can be done environmentally responsibly and give BC and our kids a strong future. Otherwise we're looking a lot like Quebec but without the intensive manufacturing segment of the economy, so worse off than Quebec actually. BC is a resource province, we must continue developing and doing so responsibly, only the Liberals for all their other faults see that.

NDP is bad for hunters, Greens would be catastrophic. They'll tell you they support responsible hunting, that means deer and moose where people don't see it happening. Grizzly Bears, perhaps even Black Bears, Sheep, Goats and other iconic species, plus wolves for sure for instance, would be off the table for hunters I'd bet good money on it. Haven't the Greens attacked wolf hunting already?? Emotion based political positions scare me.

We vote for BC Liberal not because of the blind loyalty. I prefer BC Conservative over Liberals over NDP over Green. But my brain told me, voting for conservative was equal to voting for NDP. So I cast my vote for Liberals.

BTW, to check the Green platform is like to read Al Qaeda associated websites. We should never waste our time on terrorists. Yes, the Green are terrorists. Their other names have been Earth Liberation Front, Eco-Terrorists, and Not Yet Convicted Arsonists, ....

I actually paid $10 & joined the BC conservative party last summer and then voted liberal, why you may ask? Two reasons, didn't want to split the vote, but the main reason I didn't vote for them was because as a party member I received email memos and party updates and let me tell you what a bunch of disorganized, infighting, backstabbing clowns the people running the conservative in BC are... I got emails telling me that one group was splitting from the main group and then a counter email from the main group saying the breakway group had not authorization to send that email out, then people were kicked out of the party and people quit etc etc etc.... after a few months of getting these emails and memos, I figured I flushed a good $10 down the toilet.

I vote Conservative federally, always have, always will but in BC I can't until they get their S H I T together!!!

The current Greens are no terrorists nor anything close to resembling them, these kind of opinions unfortunately only serve to make moderates think those voting Liberal are loonies. The current Greens would however be a disaster for BC's economic situation and no friends to hunters, but they're not crazy or terrorists.
