Wolf ammunition!

depends on what ammo you are talking about (calibre), and what type of firearm you are using it in. I think it is just great for rifles, but I have no experience using it in handguns. I use the Winchester in handguns, and although it is a little hot, (144 PF with 147 gr), it always goes bang, and feeds reliably.

After reading posts on Glocktalk about wolf, you could not pay me to run it though my guns.

Could you elaborate a little or perhaps post a link to the article or thread on glocktalk you are reffering to?

Thank you.

i bet he is talking about the steel cased laquer covered cartridges, and from what i have been told they have since been using a polimer based coating to help prevent wear ah heck i will go find that info now

some take outs from my talk witha few others

Wolf ammo is made by Tula cartidge works. It is not remanufactured ammo. Wolf is steel cased and berdan primed therefor it is not reloadable. I shoot a lot of it in my SKS and AR but I myself wont shoot it in any of my other weapons because of the steel case. Barnaul is another inexpensive Russian ammo you might look and see if it is on the import list.

Why not in anything other than the SK and AR? I have put about 10,000rds through one of my Kimbers without any added wear whatsoever. If the extractor is adjusted properly then it works just fine. I can see if the extrator is WAY toooo tight that it could ding it up.

The older wolf had laquer coated cases and it just made my handguns nasty the new stuff is polymer coated and it is a heck of a lot cleaner. I buy WWB for my handguns that or CCI Blazer I just dont like the idea of steel cases when I can get brass or aluminum for almost the same price.

Wolf ammo is ok, but in high pressure rifles the laquered steel cases can be hard on chambers - unless they are chrome plated. Military weapons like Mil-Spec AR's and AK's have hard chrome lined barrels & chambers. Some aftermarket AR's have plain steel barrels, and we have seen chamber damage with Wolf ammo in those weapons.

Steel cased ammo is fine in a 45 auto. Millions of rounds (of steel cased ammo) were produced by the US government during WWII. The 45 operates at much lower chamber pressures, and is not subject to the same problems.

few thoughts i have seen . . .
