Wolf Calling Works

This morning my oldest son and his buddy decided to try Howling Wolves. IT WORKS
After walking in first thing this morning they started howling and within 20 minutes they had wolves answering them.
After moving to another location they saw a wolf not far from where they just left.
A few more howls and out came the black one at about 400 yds(rangefinder)
Coles 257 Bee did the job.
A few more howls and 20 minutes later the grey came out and this time Dustins 257 Bee did the job.

Good stuff. Were they using a howler or electronic caller? I have used a Rocky Mountain howler with success as well as with electronic callers. General rule of thumb my hunting partner taught me is if they haven't howled back after 3 series of howls, switch to a prey call.
 
I was the buddy in the hunt. We used a howler call(not electronic). Its made by ELK INC. " the Wolf holwer" its called.
 
Not to many tips here. New to wolf hunting. I just watched the Elk inc youtube videos on calling. We where also in a epic spot with lots of wolf sign. We would just howl once or twice and then wait 15-20 mins. Did that for an hour and then move on. Once we downed the first wolf i did a couple wolf whines followed by a howl and waited. 15 mins later the second one came out and walked right up to the one we already downed.

The hides look to be fairly decent. Will have a much better idea tomorrow after we get them skinned. Both wolves have really nice colouring, and the black one has a streak of silver down the spine, and silver spots around the ears, eyes, and muzzle. If I remember I will post a couple pics on how they turn out.
FYI - I am Rebs oldest son
 
calf elk in distress is killer for wolfs.... never considered howling to them, I don't want to attract the scouts.... I want the pack to come in, same as coyotes I call what they want to eat... not fight

Congrats!! Nice wolves !! Yes howling works. We done it in the past.

I need to get out as well one of these weekends but 2 boys in rep hockey doesn't give me the time right now. That's ok, its all good, I enjoy coaching and watching them. They both enjoy going out with dad when we can. Thought I could get a sunday predator hunt in but if I have one, will be taking the boys ice fishing...maybe Family Day Monday !!
