Shot my first wolf yesterday, and made my longest shot to date, and drew first blood with the 338 federal. A day of firsts.

We lasered the shot at 446 yards, i was as surprised as the wolf:D

Load details, 338 Federal in a T3, spitting out a 160 gr TTSX over 44 grs of RL7.

The first shot didn't hit perfectly, a second in the noggin was administered.

Nice! So, the Fed is a long range varmint round too. There is nothing it can't do...:D

What was the hold-over at 446yds? Or did you dial it?

good stuff!, how many wolf tags you aloud???

congrats on your first

No such thing as a `wolf tag`in Alberta for the purpose of hunting them. Trapping is covered under different rules of course.

It`s just outright allowed for an Alberta resident, to hunt them, on crown land during an open big game season, including spring black bear season to 15 June.

I don't want to come off sounding like a tree-hugger, (and I'm Not) but I wonder what is the best estimate of wolf numbers are in Alberta presently?

Anyone got the goods?

Cheers...........

If they estimate wolf numbers like they do grizz, then way more than they say.

This group of bears was on the side of the trunk road a couple hours after i shot the wolf.

Sorry, i did not mean to fly off the handle. I just cannot see how one can justify killing a wolf just for fun.
I read the entire thread, I dont once recall reading anybody saying to kill wolves for fun. If there is no limit on wolves right now, that would be for a reason, no doubt due to the high numbers. Im sure the province has an open no-limit season "for fun"!
