Hey all,

I am curious if there are any wolf hunters on here who have had any experience or any successes hunting around Charlotte Lake, BC (MU: 5-6) or the nearby areas.

I will be there for a couple weeks later this year, with a quad and my rifle, so I thought I'd ask around if there is anything worth going after around there for wolves or if it's less than ideal for that and not much action to be had.

Thanks for your time!

Hunting wolves around here is very hit and miss. I have had a few come in to predator calls while hunting coyotes in winter but it's not common. A wolf pack has a huge range, and they can travel a long distance in 24 hrs. When you find "fresh" wolf sign the wolves might already be 20 miles away.

It might be that in spring a wolf pack will stay in a smaller area if there is a concentrated food source, for instance an area with lots of young or newborn elk could keep them around.

When you get up on the Chilcotin Plateau talk to the local ranchers. They target wolves very aggressively and will give you lots of advice on where to find some.

Also remember you need a BC hunting licence to hunt wolves.

yes this is good advice. Probably the best place to start actually.
Right now calving season is in full swing with loads of new borns on the fields.
Bears, wolves and coyotes will not be far off.

That's good advice. Thanks man.
I'll be going to a buddies cabin there that they have had in the family for generations, so I'm sure we can find some local old timers to chat with about it.

I have my BC Hunting license and I have checked the 24/26 synopsis prior to posting.

Those are valid points jethunter. I didn't see any restrictions while I'm there for using the quad (I'll be triple checking everything before I leave), so maybe that will play a role if tracking is likely to cover vast distances. I did know they have a large home range as as species but I am not familiar with the area personally (yet).
What's the local population like around there, is it rare to see wolf signs and wolves or is it pretty common? Either actively hunting them or just happen to encounter them in your travels.

We see wolf tracks fairly often and hear them at night, but don't see them regularly.
