buy a savage or marlin in .243 - .270 for $400 and shoot every wolf you see

With Wolf you need to be able to reach out a bit. Wolves can be cagey, and often you will only be able to get a crack at them from hundreds of yards out

Seeing as I mostly hunt coyotes in the winter the odds of a wolf showing up are better than average.

I'd use a 17 Remington.

It kills coyotes dead and I'm sure it would flatten a wolf within 200m.

My pick is a Savage bolt action in .243 Win
It's great overall .... lots of ammo choices
Top it up with 3 x9 or 4 x 12 variable scope
Bipod if needed where you plan on going

Still might have $ for cover scent and extra camo
