wolf hunting tactics

In our area we hunt them like you would using a hound, except one of us tracks and pushes them. Works fine, shot one fox and 3 out of 7 yotes with 3 hunters last week. This is not as much fun as with hounds but a lot cheaper and we can run in all conditions. (32 last year and 29 year before).
Hounds are the best... but in my immediate area they are impractical... eventually the wolves/coyotes will just take them 4 km away and across the highway. Transport trucks are hard on hounds...
I do most of my varmint hunting over bait and some with the use of calls... I have a deer carcass ready to stake out 200 yards from the back of the house on the gun range. I can see the bait from every window in the back of my house... I am watching a pile of deer heads right now as I type and the 25wssm is sitting on the kitchen table. I usually set the Caldwell Leadsled on the deck railing and just drop the gun into the rest and pull the trigger.
I know you might think this is not hunting and your right it is basically just predator control... but it is a very effective form of predator control and certainly better than working all day.

I'm with you on the bait, BR. I spotted a wolf just south of our place a few weeks back. It's the third wolf sighting in a few short weeks. Now I've got a tractor bucket full of beef scraps 200 yards behind the house. The coyotes have been completely nocturnal until yesterday. My wife tried to wake me (working nights) as a coyote was finally on the pile at high noon (why she didn't shoot it herself is beyond me) She says I told her to shoot it herself then went back to sleep. When predator hunting though, I like to call them in and have an assortment of calls for that purpose.
