I was talking to a few guys the other day( in a gun store) that tell me that there is no wolfs in our area. WMU 73 I really did'nt know to agree or disagree. I have seen lots of yotes and What I call brush wolfs that may be half dog half yote? COY? spelling?
I have also saw, 2 times what i believe was a big wolf. North east of Port Perry. The first time a friend was with me, the second time by myself. Really big. First one ran infront of my car just missed it.
I would like to know what other peope have to say. Where is the southern most part where wolves can survive in Ontario. In the wild not the ZOO!
It's funny! as I had a guy tell me that there is no moose south of bancroft . Yet again! I see a Cow and a calf run down my road last year. I live way way south of bancroft. One was killed by the cops in Oshawa last fall. Are there Timber Wolves is Southern Ontario ? Although not great #s ? I think they are here in WMU 73

Over the many many years in WMU80 we have shot a lot of coyotes or coy dogs or what ever you want to call them. Some of them wieghed well over 65 pounds and a true coyote should not be that heavy. We have shot them red like a fox, grey, all black, straw coloured and our new species the hairless mangy ones. We have had bear in our area so a wolf whether it being a red, eastern or timber could be this far south.

There be wolves in Algonquin Park too.
"...no moose south of Bancroft..." Unusual, but not totally unknown. There are moose around Waubaushene.

There are coyotes around Seagrave and Blackwater. There are the coy dogs around Cannington and Lindsay though. I have never trapped a wolf around this area. I have up around Norland though and some up thru Minden.

True story - I have seen them several times, and have heard that they are as far south as the Minesing Swamp. Most recently I saw a cow and a calf two springs ago while turkey hunting near Moonstone.

I have also heard there was a moose hit and killed by a truck near Grand Bend a couple of years ago.

In 76 we definitely have beasts larger that coyotes. One big black one last winter probably was at the 75 pound mark. Pure wolf I'm not sure but they are for sure larger than yotes.

I have heard from many guys seeing wolves between Durham and Mount Forest area and I actually saw one that was as large as a full size German Shepard and was just out of bow range while deer hunting by Conn a few years ago.It was the end of october and was grey/black unlike any coyote I have see around here before.

The Larose forest has a controlled moose hunt and they are way South of Bancroft. For all you doubters. As for wolves the coyote hunters who run dogs around here shoot a few good sized "coyotes" every year,

A couple of Timber Wolves have been spotted recently in the south end of Barrie, spotted by at least 4 different people over the last few weeks in an area of waste ground where I run my Dobermman.
I've not yet seen them but the sightings are becoming more frequent.

I used to live between Port Perry and Pontypool we shot 2 wolves and 8-10 coyotes in the 10yrs we lived there

The Wolf I saw was just West of Ragland. I'm sure what my buddy and I saw was a Wolf. BIG mother! It ran in front of my car and out into the field. My buddy said his back was about level with my hood on my FORD LTD. I pulled over. I almost hit it. It continued to run for about 125 yards or so, then stopped and looked over it's shoulder at us. Maybe 10 seconds then continued on his way.
I have seen lots of yotes and Coy dogs or what I like to call brush wolves. I hunted yotes now and then when I lived in Colorado for 6 years. I know what thay look like and this was no coydog.
If you asked me if Timber Wolves were in this area before seeing what I saw? I would say No! But ! I now think different. Alot of guy's think NO WAY! TIMBER WOLF! :bsFlag: Then again until I saw for myself ? I would say the same thing. Alot of wildlife live in and about the Marsh Southeast of Lake Scugog. Do you think What my budy and I saw could have been a Timber wolf? Anyone else see one in WMU73 Scugog area?
