Not so rare this year... I posted recently about having to defend myself from charging wolves in pemberton at beginning of month.

Kamlooky... Wolves are now abundant in chasm, hihium, dead man and brigade creek/vidette. Been scouting for my nov mulie hunt and there is major sign in all these areas just north of kamloops.

I've been told by my local CO that predator control is no longer in the mandate for the BC Conservation service... So it is now up to hunters and trappers to control wolf populations.
I'm signing up for the trappers course and will be seeking a trapline to run on the chasm side of loon or in my own area in 5-1.
 
^^ I saw your thread when it was originally posted. Still an exceptionall rare event. Everyone is going on about the woods being full of wolves these days but wolf/human interactions are still few and far between.

Not so rare anymore, are ops group see them frequently and often they show no fear of vehicles or humans, unfortunately no guns is corporate policy. Have been several nuisance wolves which are usually hunting the camp dog disposed of. I'm sure if a few more were shot they would become as elusive as they used to be.
 
A guy on west Arthur St in Thunder Bay had some 300lb++ calves attacked recently, three injured and one killed. The one that was killed was completely devoured by daylight. He apparently heard a commotion and went out to investigate and put all that were alive in a barn. He wonders just how big the pack was to eat that much in a few hours? This isn't the first time he has experienced wolves and can't shoot them as he actually lives within the city limits.

Many hunters are reporting sightings of wolves in the Thunder Bay area. The moose population especially west and south of TB has been devastated by wolves.

IIRC there was no season on them and all you needed was a small game lic. to shoot one. Changes now require a wolf tag and not many are buying one.

Word on the street is this is what has happened in Alberta as well. Some say wolves were poisoned in the winter as a way of keeping the numbers in check and that has now stopped. I am not sure it was an actual program or if it was just CO's doing it on their own with help of trappers and locals.

To the naysayers: It's getting more and more common as their numbers explode. Some areas in BC have gone NBL/NCS on wolves, and others are leaning that way. It's bad, and getting worse.
Make predator hunting part of your season!

Same thing just North of Winnipeg. People demanded something be done about the marauding coyotes and wolves. So some trappers moved into the area. Then the people demanded something be done about all the trappers. It's hard to win when you're dealing with idiots.
 
I was out last Tuesday south of us and probably near half ways to Merritt.
With me were my daughter and the Ooseydog.
She was rustling in the bushes and I could hear her but not see her.
She started making ky eye yippy yappy noises that I have not heard from
her before. Didn't take me long to find her. Not sure what got into her, but
the lever was yarded and the gun was absolutely ready. I figured she was caught
up with a yote, wolf, doe and fawn, bear or some sort. What ever it was, she came
back without a mark. My daughter was watching me and wondered what I was so
concerned about. We had a little father daughter talk.
Ohhhhhhhh. Yeah ohhhhhh. Pay attention to what your dog is doing out in the bush
or you may come home with out her.
Wolves around here, whooddah thought?

Actually the truth of the matter is that her and her dogs were all sick or injured!! After all Wolves only kill the sick and injured?!!

To quote my Grandfather, " What a crock of horse####, I have yet to see a Wolf running through the bush with a stethoscope and thermometer"! :agree:
