Id use same gun and bullet I use for deer or moose. Use wolf hunting as trigger time as punching paper is expensive as ####.

180-200g 30.06 probably do less pelt damage than anything lighter. But all will kill them the same if you do your part.

It was a dark night and the bugger jumped over a guard rail right in front of me.

Hide was too mangled to keep.

I used a 6.5 CM with 143 ELD-X for coyote hunting for one season. Damage was minimal on the dozen or so that were taken with that combo. I think a decent big game bullet in your regular moose or deer rifle is a good choice.

Speer makes a 308 125 gr varmint bullet , we have them loaded but not tested on fur yet

Blitz King bullets --- you don't want it to pencil through. Regardless of caliber ...use a small grain pill at high speed ...big game bullets are the worst for this application

All of mine have succumbed to a 140 grn. Hornady from a . 270 WSM, no complaints were offered. Pencil through ? We're talking deer sized animals.

I got a pencil hole through a black wolf with a mauser 9.3x62 and a handloaded 286gr Hornady.

I'd probably go with the 150gr Ballistic Tip.

Barnes TTSX bulet are good on Yotes - Wolfs - Cats as they don't expand and blow Big holes in the Outboard side - i like the 50-60 gr ones in my 223 Remmy - jmo RJ

I'd use what ever I have on hand when hunting. If I'd be hunting wolves or coyotes, I would then be using heavy bullets in my 223 but would like to try some of these TTSX as mentioned above. ^^^

As few years back I was calling elk one morning and a pack of 7 wolves came in, I got the Alpha female and missed a shot as the pack was running, that evening about 1/2 mile away I was calling again and they came back, I nailed 2 of the pups, by the end of 2 weeks hunting our group got 5 out of that pack of 7, made lots of room at the dinner table for them. The 300 RUM with 180 NAB messes them up a bit, hit the shoulder on the big female and took 1/2 the other side out.
