Well,
I decided to scope my M-14S and compare it with my bolt gun to see wich one I was going to take to the deer woods this fall (it had shown promising accuracy with the irons and I don't mind the weight since I humped a C9 a few years back).
Wolverine didn't have any ARMS 18 in stock so I ordered a Leatherwood mount instead. I anticipated the ejection issue with those mounts so I ordered Wolff's M1A replacement spring kit from Brownells. After some reading on the forum, I found out this kit might not help me at all since the recoil and hammer springs were advertised as ''extra power''.
I therefore tried my hand at shortenning my original ejector (3 full coils) and extractor (2 full coils) springs. Well, that didnt prevent spent casing from jamming between the mount and the op rod handle. Also, my springs must have been shorter than the norm before I trimmed them since the bolt kept spewing out the extractor. I spent my time on the shooting bench putting the bolt back together.
So, when I got home, I put the Wolff springs in the bolt. Imagine my suprise on my last trip to the range: my bolt won't close properly ; there's insufficient lug engagement. After examining the base of the casings it seems the ejector leaves a big dent on the rim. I was only able to close the bolt on snap caps and those are really marred by the ejector.
I'm thinking of ordering new springs and an extractor from 762mmfirearms as a final solution.
Any other suggestions?
Regards,
Chris
