Interesting rifle, but I feel it misses out on a couple of the truly great things the ar180b had going for it.
1. On the 180b, the flash hider is machined into the barrel, instead of being threaded for one to be added on. This allows you to have a shorter OAL. Made the 180b a bit more like a 16” barrwl with 2.6” flash hider, versus this 18.7” barrel with another 2” of flash hider added on top.
2. Medium profile barrel: I think this is a mistake in a gun like this. A lot of the balance issues associated with these long barreled NR rifles comes from a heavy barrel. The original pencil profile of the 180b helped mitigate the front heavy aspect
3. The handguard length. I know looks are subjective, but I feel like many NR guns look silly with a short rail and long barrel. Why not a 12” rail system? Especially if it’s a lightweight mlok design!
Like I said, cool rifle but I think I may hold out hopes for a future version with some of these changes.
Production guns will have a mid length gas system with the appropriate longer hand guard, I think this will improve handling and looks.
But whether we like it or not the Libs have put firearms law in the RCMP hands. They have stated so openly. So yes RCMP opinion is law now. Or so the Libs have stated. So who to believe at this point. I am not trying to be a sh*t disturber. The government says one thing, you say another. It is getting bloody confusing. I am fairly new to black rifles so never had to deal with this much before but with the Libs and RCMP in lock step I trust neither. Also the Firearms Act is clear as mud. They can twist it any way they want and have given the RCMP the permission to do so. I just don't trust them. I am not looking to get a refund. We just have to be ready should they try anything and expect them to do so. With the new firearms control bill yet to come out I hardly think this and the BCL 102 will escape notice. They won't like it.
I am saving the NRT for those worthy customers who have always accused us of exploiting the Canadian market. It has already been said we could have sold this rifle for $1,250.00 or even $1,500.00 I trust I have made my point. We have even offered a healthy discount for Canadian dealers.
I think its bad news for a lot of NR 223 rifles....This will definitively cause the Macdef upper and lower sale to either screetch to a halt or slow down considerably....AR15 mags, AR15 interchangeable barrels, hand guards, pistol grip, trigger groups....definitively has everything but Direct Impingement system of the Macdef (AR15).
I will probably still go ahead with my Macdef pre-order but instead of ordering another upper I'll get just the WK180 for all of my NR 223 needs! Especially since I'm going for a 6.5 Grendel hunting rig, which is an option that is currently unavailable with the 180. Man I'm excited! And now that I have a really nice barrel from SJ sitting on the shelf, i guess it'll go into the WK180 instead of the SLR.
Ok so when I get stopped in the bush shooting this on crown land.....and I tell the police that it's NR ...... and they tell me "your under arrest for shooting a restricted AR15" where is my backing stating that this is indeed NON RESTRICTED?
No. They haven't. They wrote a law. Enforcement of all laws falls to the rcmp. Law enforcement and prosecution relies legal opinions and case law.
Firearms are just more in your face.
Have you guys seen issues of bolt carrier tilt causing wear in the upper. I have seen a similar design in the USA using AR-15 barrels and nuts and due to the change in geometry with the gas piston and the BCG there was noticeable wear in the upper receiver after only a thousand rounds. Im excited for a 7.62x39 model
Well I sure hope so. I don't wish to be the one that said I told ya so. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. The new bill is supposed to include I do believe that the RCMP not the manufacturer is supposed to be in control of classification. They could use this as a test case to push that. I hope I am wrong. Never know what to believe anymore.
Wolverine can you address this? Good questions.
The firearms act. Plus you can point to the frt if you don't know how to articulate the law, and say it is just like the armalite ar180b or nodak nds18s which the lab agree are not AR15 variants.
