How have you gotten the women in your life interested in handguns?

My wife never had a problem shooting long arms, and as far as pistol's go I took her to the club a few times to try it and she loved it!As we all know,a women around a bunch of guy's goes!(hey!try this one!try that one!)Everyone was so nice to her she is now a member and has a norinco 1911 in 9mm and a .22 rifle of her own.

My wife was very timid when she was around guns at first but when I got her down to the range she did a complete turnaround. For a five foot three inch woman she was suddenly a six foot terminator with a .45 pistol in her hands and now loves shooting and is more confident in herself.

Took my wife to the range and just to get her used to shooting I had her shoot a sig 226 in .22... now she shoots her .45 1911 everyweek with a BIG grin on her face.

I told my wife to get her restricted P.A.L, just in case something ever happens to me. That way she could keep the guns or sell them off. Now she has her own CZ 9mm and 22 Walther. At first she wasn't to sure about handguns, but now we make it dinner and a night at the range. I was never too sure about motorcycles and she convinced me to get a bike. Now we have bikes and ride to the range and go shooting. I guess these are the things we look forward to when we are middle age. Having a great time.:D AGE

Big surprise for me

My wife was leary of guns but, after our first trip to the range I had trouble getting my 44 back. Its now her favorite gun. My daughter found it too heavy and preferred the 9mm. Its amazing how attitudes towards guns change after they have been properly informed about them.

Men or women, the trick is to get them out for a shoot and make it a positive experience for them. Beyond that there is no magic - I've done it countless times.

Once exposed to, say, handgun shooting (or any shooting for that matter) the person will fall into one of three categories:

1. Hated it - no further interest. At least with this situation you can still instill in them a basic respect for your interest in it (i.e. they are not personally interested in shooting, but are also less or not interested in seeing you prevented from owning guns and continuing to shoot). I've softened a few "gun haters" this way.

2. Liked it - even surprised themselves (but not enought to pursue it). Maybe want to go out again.

3. Liked it and willing to pursue it by actually getting licensed and buying and shooting their own guns.

It's clearly in our interest to take people who've never shot and turn them into 1s; and to turn the 1s into 2s; and to turn the 2s into 3s; and to get the 3s to start this cycle all over again with the people that they have contact with.

Started my wife out with my Ruger .22. Then my Taurus 9mm, followed by my Ruger GP100. She loves to try and beat me. She hasn't yet, but she keeps on trying. A great way for us to spend quality time together.

Well my girlfriend is not a huge shooting fanatic, but when we went on date night last week she said why dont we go to the range(I had been going on about how itchy my trigger finger was all week) So of course I was happy and started packing up my rifles and she stuns me again with"Lets just shoot handguns they are more fun" who am I to argue? She has been bugging me to get her in a rpal course so I guess I should realy get on it. I think when she see's other women out shooting it makes her feel more comfortable as well. Im hoping that when she gets her license we can get into some kind of competitve shooting together.

My wife is ex infantry (from a Highland regiment, no less). I had no trouble bringing her to the range. My main problem is that every time I buy something nice, I have to buy two of them.

Miraclejoe I know your pain! Mines in the Airforce, every time she goes to shoot (she never misses a chance) she rubs it in that she gets more than 5 in a mag.

Hey Joe... how is " I have to buy two of them a PROBLEM???" My wife loves to shoot most every thing I've got as well but everytime I want to buy something new the question is "do you really need that?"

I have to buy two of everything for the most part too. There are a couple of pieces I'm willing to part with to make some of these purchases happen, but my darling wife has forbidden me to sell ANY guns. It makes things hard some times.
