As far as importing goes, I use Prophet River to do all the "dirty" work. It does cost a bit of money, though. $250.00 for a single firearm, the price goes down if you import more than one firearm. I have never tackled an import myself, but have heard it isn't worth doing, for a single gun, as you have to purchase a FFL from the US government?

I have used Questar in Windsor/Detroit to bring in firearms from the USA before. They are reasonable in price, and take the hassle out of the red-tape procedure. Give them a call and see what they can do for you. I am pretty sure you just need to have the firearm mailed to them, pay them, and they handle the rest, then mail it to you. Simple, but be prepared to hand over some cash, as with all things, nothing worthwhile is free :)

Cheers, hope that helps,
D

First off...congrats. If you can't win the 6/49 a free firearm works.

I can't speak to eastern sources, but I strongly second the suggestion to call Clay at Prophet River. I've used his services twice...and it's been great. Best price I've seen and the only difference you'd have would be a bit more postage to get it from Lloydminster to northern NB. What...another $20?

I'd also recommend prophet river. I had a collector's grade M1 Garand that I couldn't find in Canada brought in from the US through them. As you stated they're very polite and don't mess around one bit! Once you give them your info you can pretty well just crack a beer and wait for them to do your dirty work. Mind you... it took the better portion of two and a half months for my rifle to arrive.... so maybe crack a few beers

Their base fee is $250 then you'll also need to pay the duty at the border and the shipping both ways (from the American FFL to the boarder and then from the boarder to your place). I believe my total was cost for the import was $344 when it was all said and done. But hey, you just won a $1000 sweepstakes so really, what's $344 for a nice 1903A3? ....Or at least that's how you can frame it to your wife!

guns on the way from creedmoor sports to the washington border-----------after red tapes done its sent across .........about a 6 week / 2 month wait at this point.

looks like 450$ all in to get the 935$ prize. seems fair to me.

I imported 3 in a year or two ago.
Two were across in about 2-3 months, the 3rd got lost in customs on the US side for almost a year.
Painful but better go into it with lots of patience.

Rather OT , but many years ago I imported a Lee Metford from Milarm. U.S. Customs stopped it and told me I needed import paperwork. I called them and said it's an ANTIQUE and didn't need paperwork. Told them to look at the date on the reciever (1892).
Oh, we thought that was the model number! They then released it.
