Just wondering if wonder lube 1000 is good to use to lube the workings of my revolver and put in the cylinder chambers to prevent rust during storage between shooting. Also on the outside to prevent rust. I have been told not to use petroleum based products as it will contaminate BP and cause misfires. I bought a tube to use to seal the loaded chambers.

Thanks

What kind of revolver is it? If a black powder gun, then no, I would not use that. If a smokeless gun, then go ahead. Superlube is a petroleum based luge with lots of PTFE (teflon) in it. Very slippery stuff and stays put.

Wonderlube 1000, bore butter 1000, and all the rest of the ( 1000 ) lubes are great for patch lube, greasing the chamber mouths on the cylinder of a revolver.

As for a rust preventive, the stuff rusted the bores on two of my guns!

I tried wonder lube in my percussion revolvers and found it was good for sealing the chambers and lubricating the cylinder pin but in warm weather it became very runny and the first shot caused all the lube to splatter everywhere. It is a terrible patch lube and is not very good at protecting your gun from rust. I use G96 on all my black powder guns and it is excellent. It never evaporates and clings to metal. I have hunted in the pouring rain all day and there is still a film on all the surfaces. Its everything WD40 wishes it was.

Cheers, Steve.

+1 for G96 it smells good and it works, tried some other gun oil and is smells different and it works... it is somewhat thicker.
For capping the chambers vegetable shortening with a bit of bee's wax to stiffen it up is good and cheap. As the weather warms up add more bee's wax.
For cleaning after the range I use a mixture of rust inhibitor used in machine shops to cool machine tools and dish soap to clean the gun/s and then liberally apply gun oil. So far no rust.

I will continue to use gun oil as well. I do use wonder lube on the treads for the nipples and will not use oil in the cylinder chambers. I guess I shouldn't worry so much about the chambers and just rinse with hot water and they will dry out right away. All I use on milsurps with corrosive ammo is boiling water, which works well and I don't have rust problems.
