Is part of them hollow? I know my synthetic ones are hollow where the screw goes and I also remember from Terminator seeing a guy cut down the stock of a shotgun and it was partly hollow inside which would make it very uncomfortable to hold and you wouldn't want to shoot it.
BTW, I don't have any wood stocks for my 870s. All I have known are synthetics.
speedfeed make a synthetic bird's head grip, but not a wooden one. I've kinda wanted a wood one for my grizz for some time now, but it always gets the back burner for some reason. After watching the new batman movie again, I think I am going to source one out for the old girl.
If you can find a factory made one, that's ok, but you can't cut one down, or even have a gunsmith do one. This has been gone over before, and yes we know it's stupid. Factory made = ok, Sawed off= prohib.
it will only become prohib if you cut down the butt and it reduces the overall length to < 26". so, on a 12" barrel 870 you would have to leave a bit more wood than just the pistol grip to leave it NR. You could make up something like a mare's laig to keep it NR.
