Our Pit####erfowlers project started off in mid-March this year. Great to see our usual group and the large number of new volunteers this year. We had a nestbox build with donated cedar that produced 65 new boxes to replace older boxes and be put up in new areas. Great crew and excellent new design for this years boxes!

Hey Canso, Great Job by the Club and You !!
Thanks for posting the very interesting photos, from ducklings to drakes and hens and even that uggerly vulture too!
Any guesses as to the numbers hatched in an average breeding season?
Regards,
Rob

We get around 40% of our boxes used. Maybe hatch out 10 per box. We have about 130 boxes, 26/52 occupied in the ones I checked already this year. Saturday will probably be our big nestbox check on the marsh with about 80 to be checked.
So I guess between 400-500 ducklings produced. Could be even up another 100 if the average hatch is closer to 15.
I’ve had 2 boxes nested in twice this year, I clean out hatched boxes right away when I come across them. Should have a couple more next week.
The Turkey Vulture and Eagle are feeding on a discarded calf the farmer disposed of in the area. We just put that box up and will install a perch farther away as he said that’s where he leaves them for coyotes and raptors to feed on….
