Wood stock gouge repair.

And what epoxy is good for wood?

I only use West System epoxies....in this case I'd use the 105 resin and the 205 fast cure hardener. You'll get about 20-25 minutes of working time before it flashes so it can soak in well and bond...and it's (the 105) thin enough to mix pigment but thick enough to keep the pigment suspended.

You can get the epoxy at marine stores or Lee Valley.

And marine stores would have the gel colourants. Keep in mind that they aren't wood toned. They are for boats. So the colours are pretty vivid and you need to buy a bunch and mix them to obtain matches to various wood tones. And this need to buy a half dozen or more colourants is why I'd suggest that simply taking it in to Wrong Way's shop or some place similar and paying them is actually the cheaper option.

Minwax makes an easy to use epoxy filler and most colorants. As for wood dust, you can drill a 1/2 hole under the buttplate and pulverize the chips to dust (a coffee grinder works well).

If you have a good supply of old stocks, you can try to find a matching wood and make an insertion, but it need a bit of know how and practice.

I have an older style BDL stock that someone carved his initials in.
Anyone here do professional work to restore it to original?
