Wood stocked 30/06

Ive had a love of the 30/06 over the years but have always ended up selling them. Most have been semi autos with a few synthetic bolt actions thrown in. Nothing ever special enough to keep so im thinking about picking up a wood stocked 06 bolt action
Budget is $1500ish for the rifle however i find myself looking at older rifles

If you were shopping what would you buy as a general hunting rifle in 30/06 wood and blue steel.? Crf or push doesnt matter

I'd go with a Husqvarna 1600 or one of their models built on a Commercial FN Mauser '98 action.

Mine is a Remington 700 ADL I put together from parts. Take-off barrel, used stock, salvaged receiver, salvaged bolt with a replacement handle, Bushnell Scopechief. I think I have about $300 in it. Shoots really well, doesn't look bad.

I have a Thompson Icon Classic in 30-06. A very nice rifle and very accurate.
They come up on the EE once in a while.

I bought an older Ruger 77 in 30-06 from another dealer at a gun show. A friend of mine was lurking nearby and asked if he could have it. Darn, it was a nice rifle. Although I’ve never owned one for any length of time, actually the Ruger being the only one, that is my idea of the perfect rifle. A nice, wood stocked 30-06, maybe a new model 70, or at least one with a Mauser 98 action. The closest I’ve got right now is a pretty Savage 14 in .308. If I sell the Savage, the money will go towards a new Winchester CRF, woody, in 30-06. I promise.

I just sold a weatherby vanguard wood sporter. They perform well above their price point imo. I plan on replacing it with a vanguard wilderness before hunting season.

I love my Abolt. For me rifles come and go and this past year I traded away a fullstock Husqvarna 30.06 and a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1952 .308. Both were extremely nice however the epoxy-finished Browning was just that much better a gun for me and cannot seem to part with it these past 20 years. Smooth as the MS and very very accurate. When the finish becomes unbearably scratched up, then will have the stock refinished with oil.

CZ 550, Winchester M70 ctf, or a Ruger M77. I guess I’d go for 557 too but only if I couldn’t get the 550, M70, or M77. Actually #### it, I’d much rather opt for a BRNO ZKK 600 before going for the 557.

Any older 700 wouldn't be a bad choice. The original Mountain Rifles were handy, well made rifles.
