Wood stocked 30/06

I have a few .30-06, I just picked up a nice Sauer Model 80 from Epps. Paid a little more than your 1500.00 but its a beautiful rifle. A older Sako 75 Hunter would also work for me.

I like the quality of older firearms.

The top rifle is a BRNO 600 30-06. It shoots 1 MOA with factory ammo. 3 shot groups as the barrel heats up.

We have a couple of decent '06s at our house, my ZG-47 and my wife's Husqvarna 1640. I think a M-70 would be a fine choice, either an XTR or a real one, but truth be known, so would a 700 Remington if you could find one with attractive wood.

I have had many bolt action walnut stocked ought sixes... an absolutely gorgeous M70 Supergrade, and my most recent, a beautifully stocked M77 MKII, which I sold when I built my 7.62X57 Medium Mauser. I find myself with a .30/06 at the moment, but that likely won't last long... I always keep dies and brass on hand.

The pictured rifles are all on the "X57" case; .257 Robert's, 7X57 Mauser and 7.62X57 Medium Mauser.

If you're buying new = Winchester Model 70 Alaskan Hands down.... That's what I would pick within that budget and that caliber. Barrel's are hammer forged at FN in SC, the rifle is finished in Portugal. Control Round feed Mauser action, forged receiver, 3 position wing safety, and no widely produced guns are blued and finished like FN/Browning/Winchester these days. What more could you ask for for that price? I own a couple different new production Model 70's. They look beautiful and shoot even better.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
That alaskan has me wanting a 375hh. Hmmm
I did however make an offer on a sako. The stock is not original he thinks it maybe a fajan but its actual walnut with great figure. The metal finish is worn but im ok with that.

If you click on the TRADE EX thingy at the top of this page and go into their products and choose hunting rifles you will find what you are looking for. Lots of Huskvarna and mauser .30-06 rifles to choose from.

M70 Featherweight or Super-grade. No, no make that a Sporter. I mean an Alaskan. Any current M70 really.

Or a Kimber Select Grade if you don't mind grinning like a cat eating glue every time you pick it up, or see it. I don't know if you want to risk it.

Or the brand new 700 CDL I have on the EE.

I really love my Winchester model 70 Extreme weather. It shoots 4 different kinds of factory ammo in 0.85" or better at 100yds. Win Powerpoint 150/180gr,
Federal bluebox180gr, and Rem CL 180GR. (I mounted a Minox 2-10x40mm scope)
My handloads with 150gr Accubonds and 180gr GMX shoot a little worse @ 1.2" but clock on average 150f/s faster.
I have never been happier with a factory rifle. I have owned several 70's over the years, but this one will be staying. Amazing trigger also.
