Wood stocked and blued rifles in the rain

One of the perks of being retired is now that I have the whole deer season to hunt instead of a week or two I normally don t bother to hunt in real bad weather anymore. That said I did have a rifle dedicated for inclement weather one that though it wasn’t the best looking gun it was accurate and did the job

The 1st day out ever with this rifle last year on a moose hunt was marked with a good rain later in the day. That's what I bought it for.

Saying that, if I know I'm in for a lot of rain or snow, I will take a rifle in synthetic.

That is a beautiful rifle, and even better to see it out there doing its job

Do you guys think its worth picking up a corrosion inhibitor like WD-40 Specialist etc over run of the mill gun oil?

Not a great photo but you can see the water beading on the oil finished stock of my 1950s Husqvarna.

Hunted in rain, snow, blowing rain/snow and when the rain comes off branches as dew... some places are always wet and I did it with a laminate stock/blued rifle. I cleaned and oiled it every evening after those conditions and it stood to dry all night. It's the bumping and rubbing that left permanent marks on it, but neglect of the aforementioned evening ritual would have taken a worse toll.

Having said that, my ideal foul weather gun would be a laminate wood stocked stainless steel model... that would still receive the same evening rites. There is no time off for corrosion though a titanium model would be most resistant.
