Wood type on Ross MkII 3*

Wondering what kind of wood the light blonde coloured Ross rifles were stocked in? I have one here that I need to patch a stock on and would like to start with a close match for grain and texture. The rifle I'm repairing is a MkII 3*, I've now has two of those that appear to have the same light coloured wood with similar grain, and a MkIII that looks like the same species. Any ideas?

I thought I read that they were European Walnut, French Walnut probably as it was considered the best material to use for gun stocks during that time period.

Before the War, Ross imported much of his wood from France and from Rumania ( it was spelled back then).

Once the Great War got going, then he was down to American Walnut.

A lighter European Walnut is what is generally found on rifles such as yours.

Any GOOD building supply (I am using Windsor Plywood) should have some in stock and, if not, they will order it.

Janice (twosteam) is a fan of exotic woods, but I still refuse to stock a Ross in Ebony for her! You have ANY idea what a 2-1/4-inch, 8-inch Ebony plank 4 feet long is worth??????

Sounds good Smellie, we have a Windsor Plywood in Grande Prairie. I'll have to make a stop and get some.
