I used to have a golden patch for woodcock and the occasional Wilson's snipe too. That area was built on so is gone for good but I do think their numbers like those of most small birds are down and still declining; I mean they used to be an occasional find just about everywhere but not anymore. When they were more abundant, a fellow hunter who really loved upland practically used to beg me not to shoot them but it wasn't hunting pressure that was killing them off because if you told local people you were after them, they had no clue WTH you were talking about.
