Do wood ducks prefer ponds , lakes as apposed to rivers ?

We think slower water like sloughs, ponds and even small ditches.
We have found that if there’s birds in the area, they will find the boxes. In the past we sought out little secluded places but now we go for spots with easy access for us. I put up 2 in a ditch by a farm rd and 25-40yds from my farmers house so his grandkids could check them out. Both occupied since we put them up!

Thanks Canso I live on a river and saw wood ducks in the spring but they did not go in the box. tree swallows however did nest in the box. Maybe next year.
