This is sure early but we have a hen sitting on 16 eggs already! It never gets old putting the phone in and getting this image on inspection!!!
Some other pics from our cameras show we are about to have more hens laying eggs soon.
Thanks for the comments on my previous post!

Thank you!
There’s only been a few posts in this forum this year, I hope to update every week or so and hopefully there’s some interesting/new photos for those who follow along. Last year we had Herons, Kingfishers, hawks, eagles and owls too. We may even see a bear at some point because there’s a Bluberry field nearby. (We saw 3 bears while duck hunting last year but in the dark as we made our way to the blind!)
Good luck in Alberta, I’ve seen pictures of Buffleheads in boxes from guys in Alberta. We have had Woodys and Merganzers in ours.

Great pic. It reminds me of a day many years ago when my older neighbour who I used to do a lot of stuff for asked me to come over to his place as he thought he had squirrels or coons in his cabin chimney.
This chimney was one of the old style double brick that was supported by a large and solid 45 degree wooden bracket attached to the wall. I put on a face shield ,leather gloves and a welding jacket and pulled the pipe out of the chimney.
I looked in with a flashlight and saw two eyes on a small head looking back at me.
Up the chimney it went and out of the cabin I went but saw nothing around.
I went back and looked again and saw the nest and eggs.
I stuffed a burlap bag in the hole and told my friend that he should not light any fires for a couple of months.
We kept an eye out and she did come back and continued to nest.
We never did see any little ones but I guess they got out as I checked later in the summer and everything was gone.
I did fashion a cap over the pipe to prevent it happening again and built a couple of boxes and put them up near a swail at the back of the property but had no visitors.
Anyway that was my first encounter with a wood duck up close as I never hunted ducks or geese much because I just don't like the taste.
