Must.....think....like.....moose.....
Water, food, cover, see if they're in the rut, if so wail like a cow caught in a trap, trust me, that's what it sounds like!
Most of all, be patient. If you hunt it, He will come! LOL

Enjoy your first moose hunt man!

Pick a narrows of land between two lakes or marshes, preferably where you can watch at least one of them. If you look you will find one with a trail they have been useing. Lots of moose in that area, the trouble is finding them in the thick bush! The reason you watch marshes & weedy lakes is not only to catch one feeding but the simple fact you can see more than 50 yards !

bea aware of the gutting. I have some friends that are getting ready a joke for the each and every newb hunter.
It usually involves an opened moose, removing of teh guts "from deep inside" and the catch phrase : <<gimme the knife so you can pull it and don;t cut yourself>> followed by a boot in the newb behind .... go for the dive man,,,,,

seriously : have fun and good hunting!

I saw 4 cows with a big bull tonite. I didn't get drawn for a tag but they are definately rutting in Sask. We made some calls and a little fork bull came steaming out of some willows not 50 yards from the big guy and his ladies. They are "easier" to get now and you don't have to be a great caller to catch their attention. I have found that during the rut , just walking in the bush lures them in. Back in NF walking in the woods can be quite dangerous at the end of Sept/early Oct. Territorial bulls will come for any sound in their area, just on the off chance that it is another moose.
