Woohoo!

I got the whole works today at Lever in vancouver. You can get basically identical cases from pretty much anywhere that sells hunting stuff.

Good news...no cosmoline! All 4 of these have been dipped in some kind of machine oil but there is no gooey cosmo to be seen. Feels like WD40. Anyway, the firing pins are all loose already (although I'm going to take the bolt apart and hit it with some brake cleaner to dry it out a bit).

I'm keeping one, the rest are for my dad, my cousin and my brother in law.

Anyway, hit the bolts with some brake cleaner to get most of the oil out (although it was reasonably loose to begin with). Afterwards they were completely free floating. Also sprayed off most of the gas systems and wiped the stocks down.

Just got back from the range on the malahat outside victoria, and yeah...what a great rifle. 3 of us went through about 200rds without any issues (except one person who was guiding the bolt forward instead of just letting it snap into place and was getting misfires as a result). At the end of a couple hours I was able to hit 5 out of 5 rounds on a 3-4ft wide sawblade at 200 yards, which I was very happy with considering my newbie shooting technique.

At $350 for the rifle and crate of ammo (which is good for 3-4 extended range days) I can't imagine a better way to get out shooting! So happy with my purchase.

Freakin' sweet purchase man! I've got ammo envy...:p
Just make sure and clean those beauties properly after firing that nasty corrosive Czech ball through them, or "Robbie Rust" will make an appearance very quickly....

Thought I got a decent amount of oil out of the stock. After 100-150 rounds and the foregrip getting too hot to hold comfortably, the oil was so bad that there was smoke pouring out from underneath the gas piston, haha. Still needs some more cleaning :p

If you fired that many rounds in a rapid sequence, it may be the varnish that is starting to smoke. There's a posting on Youtube where a guy did a "torture test" on a SKS by firing 750 rounds through it in one sitting. The top handguard was almost on fire, with tons of smoke pouring out of the vent slots.....
