Wool Hunting Pants - Finally found some and Canadian Made

Hey guys just a heads up that the Black Friday sale is up at gostwear. All of our wool items are currently on sale. If you have any questions about hunting with wool feel free to ask me I am happy to help!

Even though I have a pair of these Canadian made wool pants, the best wool hunting pants I ever had and wore in the cold were the German Army surplus ones from the 1980's. They had double thickness lining in the knees and some form of water proof membrane between those layers. The close knit thick wool felt more like mattered felt, but was still soft, flexible and waterproof.

Those were the best, I had a couple pairs of them in highschool in the 90's. I wish I still had them, I've been looking for them again but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Do burrs stick to them
I would live to have a pair bit I am always covered in burrs

They do. I usually wear mine as a mid layer when hunting but when I don’t, I get the occasional burr. I’ve worn these for 2 hunting seasons now and they are fantastic. They look and function like new. Well worth the $ imo.

I'm not too thrilled with this company as my order went in Nov 24 and they finally got around to shipping it Dec 19th ! No way it will be here in time for Christmas. If you didn't have it in stock you should have said so in the first place.

I didn't have quite that delay, but I assume anywhere that has stuff on sale for black Friday is going to be bogged down with the volume of orders on a day like that. Not to mention a smaller business that isn't amazon, etc doesn't have the people to get everything out the same day.

Considering there used to be small text on anything being shipped that said "allow 6-8 weeks for delivery" I haven't often been too cranky about waiting for things in the mail. If I wanted it today I wouldn't have ordered it online.

One comment I would make is about sizing/returns. I ordered my same size as I wear jeans and the lighter weight pants fit fine, if a tad on the tight size, but the heavier weight material was a little too snug. I assume it is just because the thicker material takes up more space. Neither pair though were loose enough to wear a thermal layer underneath. I also ordered the 33" leg, which normally fits well in jeans, but these pants were long on me, so they're going back for the shorter leg.

As far as returns I emailed them asking about exchanging them, they got back to me the next day and told me it wasn't a problem and they'd do an exchange for the different size.
Overall I've been happy with how thing went.

well interesting thread.

was just looking at their facebook page.

might order some pants. the Swedish army pants (1941 dated) that I have used for years and have patched and reinforced the knees are ready to be retired.

perhaps they will have a boxing day sale.

I wear 34-34 jeans and casual pant and was advised on their online chat to order 36 waist X 33 leg. They fit perfect. This is baffling to me. If they know this, why not mark them correctly to begin with?

Having said that, I love the regular wool pant in cold weather and the Merino wool as well, although the Merino wool don't seem as warm. The suspenders are top notch as well. I kind of bought the Elmer Fudd hat as a bit of a joke but have come to love that also.

I last ordered the Plaid Wool Jacket - 462 and it just doesn't seem the quality of the other products. It is more of a really heavy shirt than a wool jacket, but I am a fussy sort. I think I was disappointed mainly because the other products were much better than expected and this was just okay.

Seems like a really good company and the Canadian made part is awesome.

Can anybody confirm if the cargo pants have suspender buttons at the waist? The Big Bill website only mentions them on the regular pants.

Yup. I have the 18oz cargo pants and they are equipped with buttons.

As a side note. I found a pair of Perry belt clip suspenders for some other hunting pants that don't have buttons. The clips are about an inch and a half wide and slide between the pant and your belt and hook on to the belt. Not too expensive and waaayyyy better than those metal alligator clips. They work well.

Thanks...I've always been a belt'n'suspenders kind of guy, so those sound great. I'll have to look for them. Nothing worse than those miserable alligator clips; chew the heck out of the material they're clipped to...and then they let go! :) Do you recall where you found those Perry ones?
