was wondering if this doable and of course not too expensive to convert a barrel threaded already in mauser 98 to adapt it for a ruger 77?

barrel will be a 9.3x62 ...

thanks alot.

If is a large thread Mauser it will be easier... large ring is 1.1 inch diameter, Ruger is 1 inch diameter... the 12tpi 1.1" can be turned to 1 inch and threaded 16tpi and work just fine. The small ring Mauser thread is too small in diameter to be threaded to 16 tpi and work... However either of the Mauser threads can be turned smaller and bushed and then made to fit the Ruger... not worth the trouble and cost in my opinion.

The threaded section needs to be cut off. Mauser 98 is 12 tpi, Ruger 77 is 16 tpi
If there is enough shank left, then you can cut a new barrel tenon with the correct threads then ream the chamber again.
I consider that a complete rebarrel job minus a new barrel.

The threads do NOT have ro be cut off. It is a relatively simple matter to turn the tenon down, locate the shoulder to establish correct headspace, face the barrel to increase protrusion to Ruger specs, and rethread to 16 tpi.

I might know someone with a 9.3x62 reamer if you go ahead with this....the Shaw barrels are quite good quality for the price.
