Just got back from the range and decided on my new coyote load for the 22-250. It seems to like 31.5 grs and 34.3 grs of IMR 4895 under Hornady 60 gr HP's. All powder charges in between were just mediocre (around 1" groups)
All groups were shot with a bone stock savage 16 flss at 100 yds off a bi-pod and sandbags. It was about -24C with very little wind. The thing I love about this gun is it seems to always shoot to the same p.o.i. It doesn't seem to notice the diff in temperature or load! I've shot everything from 40gr v-max to 63 gr sierras with only a negligible shift in poi (about 1-1.5"). I really love this rifle. It also tends to like 55 gr sierra blitzkings on H380.
The velocity should be right around 3400-3500 fps with the 34.3 gr load. I think this is the one I'm going to choose for calling yotes. I shot 3 - 3 shot groups with each load. The pic below is a pretty representative target of the various loads. The best group was with the max load (34.3 grs) and it measured .320". I think that should be good enough for the coyotes and magpies!
On another note that sporter weight barrel really heats up fast and when it does the groups go to hell. After every 6 shots i went down to look at the target and give the barrel time to cool. It doesn't take too long in this temp.
The group in the upper left was a 5 shot group with my previous hunting load which is 33.5 grs of IMR 4895 and 55Gr sierra blitzkings. It usually really shoots that load well and that was a fowling groups. I think there was some shooter error involved in that one to
