Have heard the term "working in a barrel" when you initially fire a new rifle.

Taking my new rifle to the range this weekend and want to ensure that I take this into consideration.

Would like to hear what this actually entails and all the procedures.

Thanks

Hi, it's been discussed a few times, try this:

But, my recommendation is that you thoroughly clean the barrel BEFORE you ever shoot through it, just to make sure that there is no factory residue left in it. Use a jag with some good bore cleaner, I don't use brushes if can be avoided. Shoot 5 shots, follow with light cleaning, repeat until the box of cheapo ammo is done. Then shoot as you normally would. You're bound to get a lot of different opinions on this one, but this is what I do.
PS: you'll probably pick up some other methods by doing a search here or googling "barrel break-in"

Broke in my first custom tubes....now I just pound the rounds through 'em out of the gate and clean when they start shooting poorly (had one tube I put nearly 600rounds through before she was cleaned... was/is a tackdriver).

Don't bother... shoot till she pukes and then clean'er up!
