Working mans double

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the material the rib is constructed from yet..

???

i've had several of these over the years...none recently...but mine were all metal, in fact I think there wasn't even any aluminum on them. Did this change on later production?

Hell, the Blaser S2 double rifle had the gap between barrels filled/covered with a long piece of some kind of rubbery synthetic. Now that was complaint-worthy!

3000+ ft/lb is a pretty handy rig... surprisingly good looking gun too.

I think so, and for the price, great little “use it” gun. Like anything priced this way I view it as a mild project.

Mine two, both mine have been pretty nice looking and tight fitting steel ribs.

This message is for Ardent or anyone else who can help.

Dear Sir:

I texted with the gentleman who purchased your Baikal double rifle in 30-06. He has it up for sale.

I noticed the stock at the wrist had been re-shaped and was interested in how it was done. He told me he had purchased the rifle from you and you had done the work.

I own a Merkel double and an Anonio Zoli in 9.3x74R, as well as a Baikal double in 45-70.

My issue is with the wrist of the stock on the Baikal. I would like to reshape the stock, sans the cheek piece, in the image of the Mekel.

The closest I've come to doing this kind of work was reshaping a couple of pairs of checkered, ivory micarta grips for my Ruger Vaqueros. They turned out quite well.

I would, over the winter, like to try my hand at reshaping the Baikal stock. This would include changing the grip to a Prince of Wales grip. Would you be able to give me any pointers on how to do the work or, recommend a book or tutorial video on the process.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jaegermeister1
