working on load development on .223

Are you using a rear bag in your shooting set up? I had the same rifle as you and one of my better loads was with the 60gr Vmax with 23gr of Benchmark Powder. Was a real winner in my CZ. Where abouts are you? FS

Hah go figure. Another 60g-Benchmark-CZ match.

Seriously OP, get some Benchmark. Don't waste your money on Varget.

Lot's of people seem to like Varget, I gave it a serious chance, but it just never worked for me. Or at least it could not do anything in my 223's that Benchmark, 3031, or 8208 could not do better.

Meanwhile, my buddie with the CZ, who also found a winning load with 60g and Benchmark, could not get Varget to work for him either.
If you were shooting any other rifle, I'd say try it, but people with your same rifle are showing best results with Benchmark, so I'd head in that direction.

This^^^^. Also the Hornady 75 HPBT over Varget. The 1-9 twist will thank you.

I use this with about 23gr of Varget in my SL8 and it is silly how tight the groups are I have never had good luck with Benchmark on anything but that might just be me

Well, I got a friend who will sell me 500 Gr of varget for trial. That much can't hurt to try. Still trying to find a small amount of Benchmark locally... In the 500 gr range... I got some laddered loads set up with the varmint grenades. 3 each of 3031 22.8, 23.1, and 23.4. 23.4 was a compressed load, so I stopped there...

Day was finally calm enough to do some shooting. So I had 3 loads each of test loads for trial. Here's the first one with Hornady 75 gr A-max:

Seems to like the 21.8 gr load of benchmark best.

Here's the 50 gr varmint grenades:

The 23.1 gr load seems to be the second best load so far...
Here are the 40 gr varmageddon bullets:

Doesn't seem to like any of these so far...

I have a Savage Mod 10 FP that I have been developing a load for as well. I've been using Varget and 55 gr Speer hollow point bullets. Grouping started to get really nice at 24.0 grains and higher. 25 gr. had a 5 shot group that could be covered by a nickel at 100m, and 25.5 gr could be covered by a dime. I quit at that point. Have to play around with seating depth though. I have been seating the bullets to a OAL of 2.220 and they aren't feeding properly.
