so has anyone got any ideas on the ammo situation at the Worlds this year? I've asked for a slot, but haven't sent the cheque yet (sorry Sean). I am not so sure I'll be able to get 1000 rounds on my flight, and I've got no mules this time. No ####ing way I'm going to use Armscor ammo after watching people suffer with it in Bali. I've asked for more info on GV, but nothing as of yet there. Shipping is the best option, but again, no info. If it ends up that we can't ship, and it's Armscor for OMA, then realistically, what's the point in going?

if there is no news on GV then i doubt very much that any one here would be the wiser. i know after trying Atlanta Arms ammo last year and it not working worth a damn in my gun i am with you about using OMA ammo. i am kind of disappointed that the ammo issue wasn't brought up before awarding it to Greece. I want to go but with Cathy not working we just don't have the $$ :{. of course if i could afford to go and i couldn't ship my ammo then i would stay home or go some where else where i can get my ammo!
I am with you Slavex, I have everything ready to go, $$$ that is, but I am hesitant in sending it in with out knowing the ammo situation, don't you thing this is something the match committee should have resolved a long tie ago.
Same issue in 2005. I never considered my gun to be sensetive to ammo...boy was I wrong.
The other issue was...most of the ammo never actually showed up. People paid for 1,000 rounds...and received less than 700 (people were literally sharing) It's only 300 rounds...but no apology was given, and no offer to provide us with the rest of what we paid for (or a partial refund)
It was a mess...
I'm somewhat on the fence as well. The ammo issue is a concern that has to be addressed before committing to attend this years World Shoot. The really sad part is. In my history of attending the World Shoot (2002, 2005, 2008) ammo has been an ongoing issue for allot of shooters (including myself) that has yet to be resolved in a manner that would be economical and fair to all competitors.

if it's not Official Match Ammo though, you run all sorts of risks if it doesn't make minor, which I've seen happen with factory ammo before. It's ridiculous that this hasn't been answered yet from match organizers. The single biggest issue with both the WS's I've been too (and others I'm told) is ammo. It should be among the first things addressed during the selection process.
the issue is that right now the information we are getting is that there is no way to ship your ammo over ahead of time as they are saying your ammo must accompany you into the country. since most airlines have a 5 kilo weight limit this translates into 300 to 350 rounds of ammunition. most world shoots run 500 to 600 rounds so this is going to leave you short. to date the experience of using match ammo at a world shoot has been dismal. i know personally i would not be spending $5000 to go to a shoot and have a chance of using lousy ammo. i did this last year at the Florida Open. Three of us bought Atlanta arms ammo and it worked fine in the two other guns but in mine it was over pressuring, giving me primer flow which was coating my firing pin giving me multiple misfires. was not fun at all.

i have never shot a worlds but have flew into the US many times for a match and if this is the only issue around ammo i can understand the standard shooter's concern but if you shoot open or production and are traveling with a non shooter ...well that is another 400-450 rounds - this issue may not be so much of a concern?

I have a question on this... wondering if anyone has been through this scenario:
While I have used a companion (p.s. never call your significant other a "mule") to take ammo to other World Shoots, in the upcoming case of Greece, she is not travelling at the same time as me.
What are the issues (both real (ie. Greek gov't rules) and imagined (ie. imposed by various airlines)) on someone bringing ammo with no gun? I'm optimistically hoping we just put less than 5 kgs ammo in the suitcase; tell the airlines it's there and not need any permits.
Does anyone have any hard facts on this? (I already have several baseless opinions.)

Your wife would need an invite from the Greek side and would have to be comfortable with making the statement that the ammo is for her to use. Not for you. She would also need to be comfortable with saying her guns are already in Greece.
If you look at the rules governing the 5kg limit it already states you cannot share ammo carriage with other passengers. The ammo must always be the individuals own.
