Hello,

I thought I would start a little forum entry as to the worst .22 ammunition you have ever fired. Feel free to make more than one entry, and be as detailed as you can!

For me:

Worst
#1 - ELEY Birmingham England produced Target Rifle Ammunition (says Remington on it, but made in England?)

1 box of 50 - 3 misfires, 2 hang fires
Accuracy - horrible!
Smell - Every time I fired, I swore I was nose deep in the rear end of a horse! This stuff REEKS!

Fired out of a Winchester Model 150 @ 50 yard

Best
#1 - CCI Blazer Ammunition

1 Box of 50 - 50 fired no issues
Accuracy - Holes in Holes at 50 yards
Smell - Pleasant, like a good cigar

Fired out of a Winchester Model 150 @ 50 yard

I tried many different brands and bullet weights. Never again the Remington family including American Eagle. Tried Federal with too many failures and no accuracy.
Went to Winchester 333/555s and never a regret. Hitting power and accuracy was the best overall.
All tests were fired out of Marlin 81, Mossberg 144lsb,..Winchester 490...Marlin 990L and Mossberg 151Ms Most were at the 100 yard targets and many beyond the 150-200 mark. I shoot very little paper and most pleasing shooting is on the elusive gophers.
I do not shoot the "target " ammo as it is way too expensive when the season quantity I shoot is about 15,000 rounds.

+1 on Blazers. Pretty much perfect.
I really had bad luck with the batch of MiniMags I got. I tried to like them as they were supposed to be the cat's meow, but couldn't. Lots of misfires...

Best for me is CCI Mini Mags in my semis . Blazer in everything else .
Worse would be some old Aquila [ spelling? ] I picked up at Crappy Tire some years ago . They gave new meaning to the word " patience " .

If you've been following my threads lately [I've been trying different ammo every week] you will know that with my 10/22 the best ammo I've found (yet) is the CCI Blazers and the worst is the 333's. On the other hand my cooey 60 loves the 333's. It depends on your rifle.........you will get many different replies. Just go out and buy your ammo in a small 50 round box. Give it a try and when you figured out what it likes best....for your intended purpose....buy it by the brick!

^^ yeah that.
Worst for me are Win's 333 also, I've bought 4 boxes, now I'm just trying to get rid of them by plinking in my Henry H001 with open sights.
Best was Eley Target Rifle (old yellow box), I can't find them anymore.

The worst i ever used was some Russian ammo that was imported back in the 60`s. It was covered in grease, made a real mess. My dad got smart and wiped some down then loaded up his High Standard revolver, took a lot of persuasion to remove them after fireing. Whiz Bang was the most common, worked in every thing and very few misfires. For gophers i use what i can buy cheap at the local co-op, just starting to try some quality stuff in the 452 varmint. Got several target loads to try when the weather cooperates.

Worst: Remington Thunderbolt caused enough lead buildup at the forcing cone of my S&W K-22 to cause the bullets to keyhole after about 75 rounds. Remington Target did pretty much the same thing.

Best: Eley Subsonic or Target makes nice ornamental groups in my custom 10/22 when I'm so inclined. Winchester 333/555 is my favourite in terms of a balance between price and quality.

Yep
333's failed to feed in my pistol, get hung up on the ramp every other time used them in my nylon 66 and they work so i'm not too upset.
i've tried about 2-300 rounds of the winchester highvelocity with very little problems and now i'm trying the federal and they seem to work decent but only used about a dozen so far.

Worst: Thunderbolts. Might as well load up with rocks or poo.

I've had the best luck with Winchester, feeds and shoots fine in both pistols and both rifles.

The Russian ammo was called Vostok IIRC.
Yes this was horrid rimfire ammunition. FTF at least 5-8 per 50 for sure. But it's been a very very long time since I've seen this brand in stores.

Pretty much all I've tried are listed in the table below from best to worst. For others not listed Eley Tenex and CCI Green Tag are right near the top. Remington Target was below average, and about the poorest I've tested for target ammo. Remington Sub Sonics were much better.
