Worst Deer Calibers

* I think people are reading this as " they wont kill deer effectively" No where in the article does it say that they won't. It just states that in many cases there are better, similar, choices. As well as each one having a " on the other hand" section, where the writer lists good reasons for using the cartridge. It is not as ridiculous as many of you believe. *



Petersens Hunting just ran an article with the 12 worst calibers for deer hunting. I assume they mean the 12 worst commonly used calibers.
At any rate, here they are in no particular order.

- 7mm Rem Mag
- Any .22 centrefire
- .44 Mag ( in rifle )
- .375 Win/ .444 Marlin
- .280 Rem
- .300 RUM
- .243 Win
- .300 Savage
- .30-06 Ackley Improved
- .32 Win special
- .8mm Mauser
- .303 Brit

Just figured I would post it for some good old fashion debating/pot stirring.

That list reconfirms I STILL have no reason or need to read that publication. They must be getting really bored or they have ressurected Keith and O'Conner to bid war on eachother.

i thik if there going to write such articals they should atleast have fact to back it up, whats wrong with a 7mm. . . or a .303 . . the only one i agree with is the .22 centerfire, i know alot of deer are taken by those rifles every year, and a .243 thats the perfect youth gun, i suppose the next "WORST" list will include the .30-30 and the .308. . .

Well that settles it. I'm taking my pre-64 model 94 in .32 win spl to the local police station for proper disposal. Figures, I just put new fire sights on it for deer season too - damn!

My father in law back east hunted his whole life with a lever action, 32 special.

He had to give up hunting in his late 70's. Quite an inspiration if you think about it.

Grew up on a poor farm. Took a lot of deer.

Now the 32 sp is not a deer gun.

A friend of a friend once told me about the rifles he would be getting from his dad. One was a K98 mauser which he said was "too powerful for deer" because, his dad shot one with it, and the bullet WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE DEER!!!
