Worst hunting experience?

Scouted for 2 months before opening day of deer season. Went out early on opening morning. all three of us got our deers early in morning and hung them about 50 yards from our truck. Went to partner hunt with our fourth and returned to the truck a couple hours later. All deer were gone and our licences were cut off and laying on the ground. On the way out of the hunting area, got stopped by the COs and had a hard time explaining about our not having deer with our licenses notched. They had stopped a truck about an hour before with 3 deer in back. We had to return with them to the spot we were parked to show the place where our deer were hung. Needless to say, it was a very quiet trip home.

Not a bad day but stupid, parked one truck about three or four miles away.Started to hunt to the other truck, a bunch of hours later, 100 yards from truck realized keys were in the starting point truck.Walk back in dark.

Got up later than usual to head out hunting(a couple friends stopped in for some coldies the night before) well l finally get to the spot l was hunting and wouldn' you know it the deers already there on the edge of the field standing on 2 legs under an apple tree trying to get an apple. It saw me at about same time and with a flicker of its tail was gone.

Any day I was going to go hunting and then for any reason it happened that I didn't is bad. The worst reason so far was an engine mount on my Jeep broke, so it was expensive and I missed hunting.

Many, many years ago, [I was 15 Y.O. at the time]
Myself and 2 buddies were out hunting gophers with our 22 rifles.

One of my buddies "accidentally" shot the other one right in the instep of his foot!
The bullet missed bone, and passed through the foot and was embedded in the sole of the "penny loafer"

If you think there were 3 frightened guys, you are right.

I have often thought how fortunate we were that the bullet was a 40 grain solid "Super-Clean", rather than the
"Whiz-Bang" hollow points we often used on gophers. That would have made a very nasty wound.

As it was, the injured guy did not want to tell his mom what happened, so we dressed that wound, and it healed up just fine.

Interesting sidebar to this: months later, in the locker room at school, the Phys-Ed teacher saw the healed up wound in "D's"
foot and commented how much that resembled a bullet wound!!

It was an important lesson to us all, for sure!

Eagleye.

I have a doozy. My best friend, his first cousin, and me were bear hunting about 11 years ago. My friend is a total geek for military rifles (LEE Enfields, Mausers, etc) and always uses one for his hunting. He happened to pick his mauser (which has a bit of a hair trigger from a bubba trigger job) for the days hunt.
We were walking a really big cutline when "the cousin" spotted a pretty big blackie about 500 yds up near the trees. We dropped down, and "low-stalked" the bear for about 10 minutes. We were about 200 yards when the bear just walked into the trees. My friend chambered a round and we sped up. When we got to the spot the bear had entered the trees, we slowly followed.
My friend and his cousin were both armed while I was just "along" for something to do. My friend was on the right and his cousin on the left, while I trailed behind forming a "triangle" . The mauser's trigger caught some branches and discharged a 200gr bullet at point blank into his Friends HIP. Talk about blood and screaming. His pelvic bone was shattered, and the bullet exited the offside hip , close to the front of his abdomen. Being a complete Mcguyver geek , I had a tarp in my bag and a pack of thumbtacks, and my ripped up sweatshirt as a pressure bandage. We made a makeshift stretcher out of 2 trees and used to tacks to keep the tarp attached to the sticks to form the stretcher. He had to keep his own pressure on the wounds because we had to lift the ends. He passed out 5 or 6 times on the way out to the truck, and each time was a panic as we thought he died each time. Needless to say, all his Milsurps are retired as hunting rifles.

And there is why they teach to control your muzzle at ALL times.

I was shotgun deer hunting near Goderich Ont. , walking down a very thick and brushy bush trail when I heard a deer approaching. I was wearing full hunters orange, the first year it was mandatory. I was waiting for the deer to come into view, it did , 10 feet in front of me at running speed , a shot rang out and I fell to my knees, a 00 buckshot pellet hit me in the right shin bone, passing through pants, boots, me, and gone. My hunting friends backed a new GMC Jimmie 1/4 mile into the trail, loaded me in the back and headed for Goderich hospital with me holding my index finger in the hole to stop the spurting blood. The shooter was never identified.my doctor told me I was lucky to get him...an army Dr. Who had treated multiple bullet wounds. Painfully recalled. Jim

Moose hunting up north west of Mackenzie.
Along the travelled in road we found garbage.
And it didn't quit.
Can of beer times 2.
Another half mile or so....timmies box of donuts.
Bag of chips.
More cans of beer.
This went on for a few miles.
Later in the hunt we found these tards stuck up to their
front bumper in a deactivated dug out.
There was chit and feathers all around this truck.
The truck was a new at the thim F-350 PSD with one tire broke off the bead
and another was spun down to the cords. They three looked a mess.
Hungover, covered in mud and looked like they needed to be sh*t.
They asked if we could help them out.
Boy oh boy, they found the ugly side of my mouth/temperment.
In amoung the mess around this truck were the same odd label beer cans.
I made sure they picked up every last piece of chit they had spewn on the ground.
My buddy made me help these tards.
The only thing I offered was to take one back to civilization after our day hunting.
Next year we were going up the river in this same area and the chit floating down
the river was resemblant to the last year's journey in.
Yup, same ####er's in there. All I could do to not pull knot on their rope tying up the
boat to the tree on shore.
From the lower mainland here in B.C.
The shame these so called pig hunter's that tarnish the rest of us.

I really had to think about my worst hunting experience. Most would be due to weather, and road conditions for driving back home, or finding the boat ramp. But it's all part of the adventure, really. I do remember one time finding a guy in my deer stand. I had permission on the land, and the land owner also gave him permission to hunt there too, and told him there's another guy (me) who hunts there. So...fair is fair, but at least build your own stand.

Had a .300 win mag go off in my truck. Pointed at the roof. The guy who did it almost smoked his brother in the back seat. Neither could hit a deer at 100 yds but could hit the roof. I siliconed it shut and lived with it. Years later got bird shot in my face. Freak accident and none of us could figure out how given the shot angle and that I was 40 yards away behind trees. Hurt like hell!

Way back, my first year, I had just passed the safety course, bought my first shotgun and license and off I went to Tiny Marsh with buddies for opening day of ducks.
Back to the parking lot after a good morning hunt and C.O. is there with OPP and checking everyone’s licenses.
I proudly pull out mine as I just got it, well low and behold I didn’t sign the back.
C.O. says this isn’t a valid license if it’s not signed!!!
First he writes me up with a $75 fine then gives me his pen to sign my license.
Wouldn’t give a kid a break.

Was shot with buckshot as well. Pretty much Sucked. Bled alot.

Had to rush to the doctor who in turn reported it to the RCMP who came to investigate, take statements seized the shooters gun etc...

They did not remove them due to medical risk so now everytime i have a MRI or such at the hospital i have to fill out a form about it because there is metal in me.

Pain in the butt and i always get funny looks from the nurses who read them.

I had an operation this year and the one nurse actually said " I never met anyone who got shot before, you must have been really bad at one time if you got shot"..... Friggin twit.

That is probly the scariest/worst story I've herd, you guys still hunt together? Hows your cousins friend? Still friends?

That happened to me once also. Shot a really big mule deer so I put my tag on it and was really proud. It was the biggest deer I ever shot. Then I had to walk about a mile to the gate and get my truck. By the time I got back to the deer it was gone. Someone came thru the back of the property and stole it. I didn't even see anyone the whole day I was hunting.
I even asked the farmer if he allowed anyone else to hunt the property and he said that I was the only one he allowed.
I went to the wildlife office in Calgary and explained what happened. They made me sign an affidavit and issued me a new deer licence. To make things worst it was the second last day of the season.
I did manage to get another buck but he was a lot smaller that the one that got stolen.

When I planned to go hunting but had to work instead. Worst day ever. :)

Me too. Happened this fall, had a Grizzly draw and my cross shift's wife went into premature labour. I was already in the town we crew out of for work with all my hunting gear as that was the jump off point for the hunt as well, had already argued with the wife and been granted a little extra hunting time, and the phone rang. They said we'll bring you a machine in an hour, and pay OT for the shift, so off I went. Worst hunt ever I believe.

Why was a gun pointed in your direct? Did you think hiding behind a tree was "good enough"? Bird shot can and WILL go much farther then only 40 yards...be happy you still have your eyes!!!

When I chased a large 4x4 mule buck for a long time and when I get ready to take the shot I get trigger happy and didn't aim properly and pulled the trigger, and the buck was then long gone. Then had a very long walk back too where I started.

F**K !!!! :-S

I wasnt there for this one but ... I was working construction on the west coast of Van Isl when i was a kid. I dont know the whole story but a framer i was working with was missing his whole bottom jaw except for a small strip on his lower left side that he still had about 4 teeth that he could chew with. Anyway ... he was hiking for Blacktail in the christmas tree's and his buddy saw some movment and without identifying what he was shooting at... he pounded a round into the bush with his 30-06 and made a beautiful 100yrd broad side shot in Marks face !

Im telling you ... he is no longer a good looking man from the accedent. He was pretty sensitive about the whole thing so it wasnt a topic that was brought up a whole lot. Im not sure what consequences his friend paid.
