Worst Season Ever

I've seen something each and every time we've been out. Shot none as I have this habit of eyeballing the animal and not shooting it; I'm in no rush. Cow moose, 2 x whitetail bucks and 1 whitetail doe harvested withing my little group so far.

The animal numbers have been down though and suprisingly so have the # of hunters we normally see are way down also.

Need some cold/snow me thinks. In fact it's 8+ and raining right now in my town...WTF!

Yep the season "sucks" so far. We had to hunt for two whole mornings to get the bag below. All in RAMP territory BTW and needing no more than some door knocking and polite conversation.

A friend managed to take a very nice whitetail buck on Wednesday morning. AFAIK, it was the high point of the season so far. :D

Yeah, it's been a very mild November, but the whitetails are in rut in our neck of the woods.

Our best year ever. In BC we had an open season on white tail does. Over the last few years I have seen the whiteys push mule deer right out of the area.

On our neighbour's alfalfa field at first light, there was a herd of 20+ having breakfast. The wife and I took one apiece, and a friend came and took a third at sundown.

A few days later, a Muley 4-point fell up the mountain, and tomorrow my wife and I will take a Muley doe on her tag (finger's crossed)

The best part is from the time we took our deer to the time they were hanging off the tractor at home being processed was about 15 minutes.

Have not seen any moose, and while I don't hunt bear, it has been un unreal year for the number of black bear.

4 guys in my group, 2 deer down so far, and no extra tags this year. Sucks when you get more stitches in your hand than deer! Sinning knife was a tad too sharp this year!:D Went out with the bows today, great day out in the bush, but not much going on. Very warm weather not helping matters.

Just came back from a mulie doe hunt in southern Sask. I drove down through the worst high way conditions I've ever experience. Got to hunting the next morning and nothing was out. Getting around was a muddy mess. Day two more of the same. Day three things sure turned around deer every where. Buck were chasing does . ( Only had doe tags:mad:) and by the time we were done my buddy and I filled four does tags. We only saw about four other trucks hunting in hundreds of square mile.

Stick it out you never know when it will turn around

only reason i got my doe this year was it was a stupid one. only deer spoted on my dads game cam. went to the butcher with the deer, and there were only 3 deer including mine on the floor. to many Coyote's in ontario this year. we need to do a good thinning job.

we put 5 in my freezer this year. and looking for 1 more. "the big buck"

i still say the season "sucks" so far no big ones :( (we shot what we seen, we do it for the meat. then the "big bucks for the last one)

up to 9!!! Really

Maybe thats why you can't find anything now.

Wondering if there are others with whom I may share my misery. Every year, I put 4 or 5 animals in my freezer, some years, 8 or 9 dependig on the extra doe tags. I put the time and effort in and have always found success in the field. By this late in the season, I usually have at least 3 cut and packed. This year, I have not even been able to put a deer in the scope yet.

To start, RAMP destroyed several properties I hunted in past. Yes, RAMP may be on its way out this year, but the publicity of each property due to this program turned these places into a congested slaughterhouse. Trucks and bullets flying everywhere, and it felt like 20 guys for every animal on the property. Never thought finding a place to park during hunting would ever be an issue so I now stay the hell away from these properties.

This year, some clown that runs a hunting camp near my buddy's place, keeps sneaking his hunters into the property, despite several warnings from the owner and ongoing legal disputes.

On another friend's property I frequent, more quads. Guys without access to the land, sneak in from the Crown land with their quads. Also last week, there was a highway plowed through the bush from quads. The deer and moose disappear pretty quickly with the quads a buzzing. I alone chased 4 parties of hunters (on quads) out of my friend's place.

Who else is having a difficult year?

There's lots of big deer out there. They are just travelling at night. These pics were all taken 100 yds off my back deck. Notice the times. As the rut moves on and temps drop this week some of those bucks may be moving earlier or later.

Some appear shocked when I say 8 or 9 in a season. I include pronghorn, elk, moose and deer in that total. Lots of extra tags in Alberta, especially for whitetails and mulies, if you are willing to travel.

I'm just shocked because it's all my wife and I can do to eat what I bring home now. And we eat almost exclusively wild meat. This year I have 2.5 deer and several ducks and geese. That will last until next hunting season for sure unless I throw a wild game night.

oh boo hoo. I didn't get a chance to even put boots on the ground once this year.

you're out hunting, it's NEVER a bad thing, regardless of what you see. you usually put 4 - 9 animals on the ground? consider yourself blessed and STFU.

sick of this woe-is-me bulls**t

THIS. Thanks for saying it. Same threads every year where people put the blame on weather, other hunters, this that. STFU you're hunting, adjust your hunt to the conditions and maybe you'll be a bit more successful.
