I have the urge to purchase my first AR but I am a little hesitant with the current gov't situation. I'm just nervous that I will buy one and the next day, all Ar's become Prohibited and I can never use it.

Anyone else nervous about this? Just my thoughts as I do really want one but am concerned that it would be a waste of money...

Buy one and enjoy is despite any uncertainty regarding the future. You could also drop dead any minute, get in a life-changing auto accident, or any other number of calamities could befall you. Why worry about what you alone cannot change? Buy one and stop wasting your time worrying about an unknown and uncertain future....

Fair points.

I'm not clear on how the laws work with Prohibited firearms. If something does happen and it gets classified prohibited, do I still get to keep it or am I going to get a knock on the door to hand it over?

I've wasted money on so many other things why worry about wasting money on guns?

The more people we can get buying AR's the less chance they will get banned, or if they do, there will be a bigger uproar.

yea, i was just going to buy an incomplete lower, just in case. two months ago. now i have the barrel, hand guards and lower kit. just bought an upper kit from the states in case they put a tariff on them.

If unsure about future prohibition worries, just buy a lower reciever for a 100$. If everyone gets the knock to turn them over one day in the future, its only a 100$ loss. If they get grandfathered to the owners in the future we still might be able to use them at the range and the lower just might turn itself into a gun for use.

In the mean time now is the time to buy them. The AR glut is slowly drying up and prices are only going up. The S&W Sporter will make a excellent entry AR15 for a newby who doesn't want to spend the big coin.

You can get a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport II for approx $650 plus taxes (and free shipping).

PLUS......every time someone buys an AR in Canada a Liberal crys - so....WIN-WIN!!!!!

:)

i dont know what the count is on AR's in Canada but one would have to assume that there are a LOT!
with companies flooding the market with stripped lowers starting at $65 i would hazard a guess that there are probably 50k AR's up here, hell maybe 100k!
its not like they could ever claw those back.
in the small town that im in i can list off at least 30 AR's right off the top of my head and i dont know anyone under 35years of age.

if anything they would do what they did with short pistols and make a new class of grandfathered and make that the AR Grandfather class.

that would be my guess.
ive got a couple stripped lowers i picked up on sale and my plan is to give one to each of my daughters when they turn 18 here within the next year.
that way they can be covered in case they ever pull that grandfathering prohibited crap again they will be in.

There is no way any law currently on the books or before the house could be used to declare the AR15 prohibited. On the contrary, the law specifically states the design is restricted, and there is essentially zero room for interpretation. As it is extremely unlikely that any more gun bills will be introduced by the current government, AR15s are safe until at least 2020.
