I have a Marlin 1895 45-70, it has an xs ghost sight. It's about 4-5 years old. Probably only fired about 80 or so shots. Absolutely mint condition. It's kind of overkill for Nova Scotia. So I'm thinking of selling it. What's a fair asking price?

I'll give you my perspective (sell firearms).

So Cabela's has these for sale for $789 brand new.

Marlin currently has a $100 rebate for that model.

That brings the "current brand new retail" to, call it 690 bucks.

There has to be "some" allowance for it being used, even lightly.

If it's (actually) 5 years old it's out of warranty (to you) and even if it wasn't it's not transferable to "other than" the original owner - so there has to be some allowance for that.

And when figuring a value we (and I) never consider the taxes paid - that's a government cost of doing business.

If I was going to consign it I might consider $550 as the "shelf price" if it is absolutely mint.

Of course, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. Some may be happy simply saving the cost of the tax....

I included a Leupold 2-7 x 33 scope and the leftover ammunition. Sold it for $690. Which will be used to order a new toy!
