Is it worthwhile upgrading to a restricted PAL with an Ontario ban on all handguns on the way?

It sure would piss me off if I went through all the hassle, $$$ and wait to get a restricted PAL. Then go out, and buy the S&W double action revolver of my dreams, only to have the bastards tell me to hand it over. I would certainly blow a gasket at that point.
Worth it or not???

Honestly I don't see how Ontario could propose such an idea. Seeing as firearm legislation is Federal not provincial. However I agree, I too would be pissed if I went through the trouble and financial aspect just to have them outlawed. Then again, I will never give mine up.... You choose, I'd risk it and se what happens, on the down side you could always sell them to someone in the rest of a democratic Canada, or send them out of province for "storage" and shoot them when you visit?

No province has the authority to ban or sieze guns and the new Minister of Justice just remined Ontario about it .

I'll say this for you... you are very easily deterred...
For a minimal outlay in time, money and effort... you can find out how you have been missing at least half the fun of firearms ownership.
My advice is get off your ass, join and support a gun club and worry about more pressing matters...like is your dog getting enough cheese!

If you were to get your restricted, join a club and buy a handgun, you would make it harder for the assclowns in government to ban the little buggers. Strength in numbers! I did and I'm getting more!!! Buy an AR while you're at it!

A few people owning a large number of these bad, bad, evil guns are a lot easier to discount than a large number of people owning a few of these wonderful pieces of craftmanship.

Think about it. And don't forget the past, remember that alot of the 12.(X) guys got to keep their toys while only a few lost them to outright confiscation. I had an uneasy feeling last summer and decided to USE my restricted classification. It wasn't easy and without frustration, but I am on my way now with my first handgun under my belt. Now I need backup!

If they do ban handguns (by some miracle), you would ALWAYS regret not buying and owning one while you could have.

:) +1 i wouldnt been so nice :p

Go ahead and get your restricted status for your PAL.

Ontario will not be banning handguns. The federal government will not be giving them the power to do so.

Hey Ripstop, try a holster... it's a lot more comfortable... just kidding.

I would go ahead and buy as many handguns as you can afford and enjoy them. Even if the government attempts a handgun ban it would be tied up in the courts for years.

Hey I really dont think that the goverment would ban all guns .A it will cost them way to much. B The goverment likes to throw topics out but is famous for doing nothing about them ( ex shouldent Quebec have seperated by now)
It wont happen!! go out and enjoy your guns!!!

Worth it. Ontario does NOT have any authority to ban hand-gun ownership. Moreover, giving them the authority creates all sorts of legislative challenges that no government wants to deal with.

you could either get your Restricted PAL, but gun and enjoy shooting it, or sit and guess what the liberals are going to do...

plus even if Ontario banned handguns, you could sell it to someone in AB, BC etc, so you have nothing to loose.

And probably safer too! :D

I've bought a Ruger MK II to start me off and I'm trying to close a deal for a S&W 686. I have notified ArmsEast that I want a stripped AR lower receiver to finally complete that project and figure that I'll be set for awhile.

I figure that if the government wants to try to ban anything, I'll be in there like a dirty shirt with the rest of the restricted owners. If by chance Harper unprohibits the FNFAL e.t.c., I'll be buying one of those so fast my wallet will be scorched.

Get it in while you can and don't worry about the future.

Never live with regrets. 10% of something is always better than 100% of nothing. You will enjoy the restricted PAL as long as it lasts.... and that could be a lifetime. So the sooner you start the process, the better.
As mentioned above, support the membership.

I've download the restricted manual. The more people with restricted licences, the less likely it will be for a ban.

Part of my questioning was from a thread I read here where it said that only people that had ATT's nw would get to keep their toys. Phuck it anyway. I'm going to get it ASAP.

Attaboy!® :D

Go for it, man. I bought my 9mm on Jan.22, months before I could really afford to, just to piss the Libs off.

If you're really that worried about storing it, get a metal toolkit and drill an extra hole for a good padlock, then chain it to something in your house/room.

I just moved to Ontario from BC, so be warned it takes a long time to get your liscense and all the other BS paperwork - ask your local gun club, though... some of them roll the restricted PAL course and their "club" safety course (another BS ontario-only thing) together. Shooters Choice does it this way.

Good luck and take guests once you get the liscense! We all have to do this to get more people shooting, and questioning the BS that the Toronto Star prints!

Thanks for the good luck.
That is the only way we can defeat the fanatics. It is strange that it would take a move to Toronto (where the bureaucracy is crazy) to make me want my restricted.

I will however be careful where I buy handgun ammo as people who buy ammo here seem to get their guns stolen. Coincidence ???? I think not.
