Would a Raven kill a duck?

We have been able to shoot them on private land in Alberta now for a couple? years. They are expanding their range though, I think anyway. They were never seen where I am east of Red Deer 20ish years ago and now they are very common.

I watched a documentary on ravens just the other day and they suspect they could be one of the smartest birds alive. They actually posses the power of reasoning to figure out ways to get what they want when obsticals are introduced.
It was amazing what they could do.

Supposedly the old-time duck hunters used to say "Shoot a crow, save a duck."

And ravens are bigger and smarter than crows...

That reminds me. It's about time to load up the crow decoys and head out to the local marshes for some shooting again.
yep it's about that time again :D

still not sure the real reason we're not allowed to hunt ravens though?

At one time Ravens were fair game, alas nevermore.:p

Ravens can kill animals much larger than cows. They just think outside the box.
Much like the Ninja they have many tools in their arsenal.

Actually they even look like a Ninja, can fly like a Ninja, and often sound like a Ninja. :ninja::ninja:

I've never seen one riding a crotch rocket, but then I live in rural Canada and everyone rides the range here so that's not surprising.

We have as much chance of seeing a Ninja or a raven for that matter, riding a crotch rocket around here as we do seeing an NDP lawn sign.

Hope this helps.:D

I seen a raven flying over the highway with a live duck in its talons before, about two minutes later we seen the duck headed the other way with the raven in hot pursuit.

There's no doubt in my mind.

Also, Ive seen many magpie's on the edge of the paved roads across from farmers houses on the way to drumheller and back to calgary. They know that roadkill is food, and that animals get hit by cars to become roadkill. I believe they are smart enough that they are trying to lure the farm cats (which you can often see stalking them from across the road) to come out on the pavement. This might be speculaltion, but ive seen it a fair bit out that way.

And while im headed off topic,Ive heard of crows circling game during hunting season, they see hunters and game and soon after there is a gut pile enough times. Eventually they circle the moose or deer waiting for a meal to show up. Although you gotta be careful its something a bear killed and will aggresively defend.

Last year me and my son were fishing their were crows and seagulls on the hdryo lines and on the rocks hours went buy it seemed liked the got along. But at about 1.00 in the afternoon one of the crows swooped down at one of the seagulls and for 5 min.a dog fight started the gull sounded like it was sceaming for its life but with some very good flighing it did get away but it was very close.
