I have been busy talking with Norwegian target shooters trying to find a reliable source for spare barrels and parts for my Sauer 200 STR. I know there are a few guys here in Canada who have them, but I imagine all of their guns are showing signs of being worn out, like mine is.

There seems to be a lot of supply of genuine Sauer spare, and aftermarket parts, in Norway, where they are one of the most popular high-end target guns. There are even plenty of Norwegian gunsmiths who are offering to bore out the barrel adapter to fit any barrel blank (including standard blanks), while maintaining the switch-barrel feature, chambered for whichever cartridge the user likes.

If there is some interest in buying parts, I would be interested in doing the leg work to get it here. I do not believe that it is necessary to pay an arm and a leg, or whatever Canadian dealers are charging to bring in what they consider, "special order," (a.k.a., "special pricing") gun parts. It's time someone cut us 200 STR/SSG 3000 owners a break!

Cheers,

Very popular gun in sweden as well. I read in a magazine that sauer is coming out with a 6xc barrel for them.

That would be really cool, and hopefully cause more guys would open their eyes to that gun for serious target shooting here in North America. The single-stack magazine and bolt-face should be able to accommodate any cartridge similar in shape, and with the same base diameter, as a .308 or 6.5x55. From what I understand, the 6mmXC fits the bill quite nicely.

You could possibly add another choice to your poll. I may be interested in standard sporter profile barrels (9.3X62 immediately springs to mind) and any other parts that would be compatible for a regular Sauer 200. I imagine your source would be the same.

I have a sauer 200 308 heavy barrel hunter/target rifle. It would be nice to get the same weight barrel for a standard sauer 200. I have the steel frame 3006 sauer 200 with various cal barrels and magazines. But none of the barrels is really a heavy target type barrel. Spare sauer barrels/magazines are really costly now.

I am not sure if they still make those S 205 models anymore. The only real distinction was the different stock, and the double-stacked magazine. In nearly every other aspect they were the same as the 200 STR/SSG 3000. They even take the same barrels. I have a feeling there is a very small market for them.

Also, they are thinking of manufacturing SSG 3000's down in the states, for the U.S. market. I would be curious to see how they end up, quality-wise.

If Sig times things right, they'll really be stepping into the pitch for taking on the NA market with the 3000. The market here is very ready for a multi caliber platform such as the SSG. I just hope they don't ruin the trigger trying to appease NA lawyers.

If the 308 and 6.5 x 55 barrels are easily interchangeable on the 200 Sauer STR, I wouldn't mind to get a 6.5 x 55 barrel. A muzzle break to fit on the muzzle would be a bonus, too.
